Low fat meals in soft diet phase?

Hi all,

Im just wondering if I should be eating the low fat lighter choices diet options while in the mushies stage? Of just the normal food? Like a low fat light choices cottage pie rather then a normal one :)

Thanks in advance :)

I made my own and froze it into small portions. Its much healthier and you can control everything that goes in it :)

If it were me, i would go with the low fat option. I made my own so I knew exactly what was in it. Xx

both of the above, I made my own low fat versions, have done and continue to do through all stages.

If I do have to get a ready meal, it's definitely the low fat versions

Ok slightly controversial here compared to others comments but I was told not to count calories whilst on soft food stage, so had which ever one I would fancy! . However that said I was eating kids ready meals most of time which were so small anyway x

That's what I saw too but I have been eating do little anyway I have 4ml in my band when I came out if surgery and seem restricted but having more on 17th :) xxx

Just a word of warning about ready meals - particularly if you've been bypassed - they do not have enough protein to meet your nutritional needs.

I made everything myself as most of those low fat meals are high in sugar and carbs etc. Least i can control what goes in my diet cooking everything from scratch x

I was the same janey, in fact I am still told not to count calories, my team don't believe in it, and I don't as a rule but if I ever decided to have a ready meal ( which I never eat) it would have to be the low fat version since God knows what they put in the full fat versions! :) xx

I don't do and didn't do low fat anything!

I have to admit that I would love to do normal fat, but at my stage unless I do diet I don't lose :( Which makes me sad, as my team would also prefer I didn't count. But some things are worth it as a means to an end. And we don't need the fat, although you could argue it helps with satiety.

I count, don't get me wrong! Low fat is often high sugar and I'm not sure which is worse!!

I think everyone must be different. Every person I speak to on here or in my real world has had a different experience.
I have not calorie counted at all since my bypass. I eat whenever I want and as much as I can manage given the size of my pouch. I never do low fat. I nearly alway cook from scratch rather than choose ready meals. But include full fat cheese and milk. Butter not marg. and small quantities of cake and chocolate when I fancy. I have still lost 10 stone in 18 months and now have BMI OF 22. My goal us now to maintain and not put it all back on.

I find sometimes the ready meals r high in salt too, not so much the calories although I still think its a good idea to count calories as they can creap up on you. I think making ur own and freezing them in to portion sizes that u know u will be able to eat seems sensible. They will keep in the freezer for ages and also in the fridge for a few days. I choose 0 %fat yoghurts only bcoz its use but everything else is just normal food except my mince, hate fatty mince so I buy extra lean. low fat often is high in sugars or has minimal difference in calories but often a massive difference in taste. Shepherds pie with mash and turnip layer or if ur trying to do low carb u could make cauliflower mash with a small teaspoon of butter and a little milk. You could slow cook stews, chunky soups the veg will soften enough to class as mushy. You could make vegetable currys add some cooked beans for protein or chilli and cauliflower rice if u struggle with real rice. Just some ideas. They just have to be soft enough to squash with a folk and as long as u can chew them down, am sooo looking forward to softs, I have gave this good thoughts this week and have a game plan of batch baking hahaha :D x
