Major doubts..

Hi everyone. If anyone can help me, it's you!
I have been put on the list for my surgery following a successful endoscopy. I'm under the impression that the waiting time is around 3 months and moving quickly. This means I have less time to think about if I'm doing the right thing or not. I have lost just over 3 stone in 14 weeks, and have NEVER lost this much before, or stuck to it for this long. Has anyone got a crystal ball I can borrow, so I can see if I'm gonna stick to it...? I really feel as though I can do it alone, but if I turn down the surgery and don't stick to it, my chance will have gone...:sigh:
I really don't know what to do.....
Sorry for rambling!

Hi Jema, I really feel for you because I think I would have the same dilemma if I was you. the only thing I can say is many people have lost tremendous amounts of weight in the past but when complacency sets in it all goes back on as easily as it came off, and in most cases more weight is gained. I'm not saying this will happen to you, but it us a common experience. the surgery will help you keep it off, but only you can decide if it's right for you at the moment. I don't envy you your decision but I'm sure you will make the right one. take care xxx

there is really only you that can answer this question and we all have the worries of whether or not we are doing the right thing when it comes to such a major operation. I too stuck to my pre op diet, because I knew what was at the end of it and when the time came I welcomed it with open arms.

If you are in any doubt at all, talk to your team and discuss things with them, but only you will know whether this is for you or not.

Good luck with what you decide to do. xx

Im the same hun BUT if we could have stuck to and kept the weight off we would have done so by now!!
I have lost 7 1/2 st a few years back and that has all gone back on.
Its not if we can lose the weight its if we can keep it off and the answer is no.
Im so scared i have doubts every day and think of the good and bad results but like have said before you do not see many obese people at 60 years old so its going to extend our lives and make life sooooo much better for us to enjoy.
Well done on the weight loss hun xxx

What's your history regarding losing weight and keeping it off? If this is your first real effort at managing your weight and you're doing really well and you truly believe that you can get to a normal weight and stay there, well then you don't need the procedure.

If as I suspect you will have a history of yo yo dieting, losing and gaining weight, well then you need to think very carefully about this before opting to go ahead.

My honest opinion isn't worth a sack of beans honey but if you decide not to have it done we will see you posting here in six months or a year that you have gained it all back and have had to try to start the funding process all over again. Good luck with YOUR decision as it is your choice and you that has to make it and live with it

I had the same concerns - but am glad I had it done - even though I lost faith - it is there as a tool helping me when I need it :)

Well I started this wl journey a few years ago and then decided to give it one more chance on my own. Well needless to say 2-3 years later and I wish I had of just done it the first time. But I think I was not in the right frame of mind last time. You have to think is this just pre op nerves are do you truly think you can do it on your own. As wlsurgery has to be the last option as it is for everyone who is hear, and have tried many years of diets and failed.

I know I certainly felt the same way before my surgery. But I am so glad I went forward with it. I am almost 2 years post op and I never could be who I am now without the surgery.

Ditto ... Hope you think long & hard about this, sweetie, because as everyone says, only you can make this decision. I have also lost 3 stone in the past on several occasions but ALWAYS gained it back within a year. I am losing fast on the milk diet & have had the though ... 'Do I really need surgery'? but I know deep down that I do. So I have made my decision but just to let you know that we all go through this self doubt. Chin up honey ... think but don't overthink xxx :):)

Hi :)

I never had a doubt in my mind about surgery. I knew I'd cheat with a band and I also knew this was my last chance. Dont get me wrong I was petrified of the surgery and my first one was cancelled after me being in hospital on nil by mouth for 24hrs due to complications in someone elses surgery, and I had to go home and wait for another appointment.

I couldnt even diet for 2 days let alone a life time.

Surgery was the best thing I ever did, and I didn't have it easy. My scar opened after surgery and got infected and it took 3 months to heal properly, then I got an incisional hernia that was massive. I have recently had this operated on (July) and what was supposed to be a 2 hr keyhole op turned into a 7hr open surgery. So it hasn't been a walk in the park but it's the best thing I ever did. I have my life back and have gone from size 32 to size 18 and I'm now aiming to get the final 3 stone off for xmas.

Good luck with ur decision and I'm sure you will chose whats best for you.

i lost 8st 3yrs ago and put 9 back on since surgery all ive done is lost and its totally changed my outlook on food i know in my heart of hearts without surgery id never lead a completley normal life and im 6.5st lighter with 3st left to lose

jema, just wanted to chuck my 2p in, about a year ago i was so motivated that i was adamant i wouldn't need surgery, almost lost 8 stone, ready to ask to be taken off the programme then fast forward a few months and hell knows what happened, life got in the way again i guess, and before you know it its 3 stone on and rising, fo rme i know i need the op, if i carry on the way i used to be i'd be either dead or severely incapacitated by 40 and thats not fair on my family, so the long and short of it is think hard, its your choice at the end of the day and no one should make it for you,but i'm going for this running and i ain't going to look back!

Thanks to you all for your wonderful support and advice. I know this is something that only I can decide and I feel better for knowing that others have had the 'jitters' pre-op as well. I think I know deep down the best thing to do, but it's still so difficult.
Thankyou all. x

I took the pre op diet seriously and lost 55 pounds in the three months leading up to my op day. The nurse who did the admission checks said to me "if you can lose that much on your own why do you need surgery?" I said lady I'm doing this today for one very good reason, six months from now those 55 pounds would be back and and they'd have brought friends

15 yrs ago, - 83lb, fertile, up the duff, 83lbs back on... Enough said :)

Good luck xx

I know how you feel i was all set for for it but when he said yeah your on the list it was then very real and i was like OMG is this what i really want have i let myself get that bad........Answer yes i will lose weight but i will put it straight back on and i dont want to spend my life on weight watches. i work with people who are always on diets and think i cant live like that. im sure now about wanting it. im still wondering about the sleeve though but i know i need a tool to help me lose and keep it off. if you think you can lose and keep if off dont get the op or you could regret it, people are saying it was the best thing they have done but we are all different and i know i wouldnt get it if i thought i could lose and keep it off. have some time to think about it you might not get seen untill 3/4 months and you know us women always changing our minds. you have earned your place on the list and you can stay on it till you decide what to do. take care wendy xxxxxx

And one good thing about this chat place is i must say not one person regrets it, they all say its the best thing hey have ever done.even when you google it theres 100s of people saying how they lifes have changed for the better with the op. that made me feel much better. xxxxx
