Marky V, Elffie or anyone under Glenda Pollard

Hi guys,

I am due to have my op at Spire at the end of the month. I have seen Glenda and got my diet sheet. She is lovely as you said Mark. I just have a few questions and couldn't get through to her when I tried, wondered if you knew the answer....
The diet sheet says 2oz of chicken/meat/etc and I was wondering if that is the cooked weight or raw weight?

Also, my letter said 'do not have anything to eat or drink from N/A on the day of admission' does that mean don't eat all day or I can eat right up till I go in to hospital. I am going in to hospital the day before my op.

Hope you don't mind me asking, I just thought I might as well take advantage of your experiences!

Hi, I know I'm not any of the people you're asking but I might be able to help with one thing. I'd hazard a guess N/A means the not eating/drinking on day of admission is not applicable to you if you're being admitted the day before. The nursing staff will ensure you are NIL BY MOUTH from the appropriate time before surgery, so keep on eating whatever is on your diet sheet then take the advise from your medical team once admitted.

I just bought cooked chicken, tesco, asda, sainsburys etc all do the packs, (and by packs i don't mean thin sliced sandwich stuff, basically small thin chunks, i can't articulate what i mean, but i hope you understand..i also mixed the flavour up a tad by getting tikka flavour too, not so bland then, invest in a couple of sealabe small tupperware type boxes, keeps it fresh as you'll be eating only a little of it

I ate normally on the day of my addmission, ie another pre-op diet day, was allowed tea at the spire, just stick to the pre-op diet, you'll be fine

Ask away, that what i'm here for!!

regards! ;)

Cheers Mark.

That is a really good idea about using those precooked chicken things. I know the ones you mean.

I have my pre op on Monday and so am starting to think about all sorts of little details now.

As you were also at Spire I wonder if you know what the deal is with visiting hours and whether my OH can stay over night with me? I sound like a baby!

xx

i doubt that the OH will be able to stay, risks of infection etc, plus the rooms are single rooms, so the logistics are somewhat difficult, by all means phone and check tho, i live a couple of miles away, so it was no great shakes, there are good hotels/guest houses close by, check yell.com for ones close by ;)
