How do u guys use marvel? Do u mix it up using milk instead of water? Or do u just add it to ur drinks, foods by the teaspoon? And how do u work the protein amount for each time u use it?

What's the daily amount of protein you should be having and when should u be counting it from post op?

I was told by my team tht you need to aim to get 60 -80g of protein when you are at soft food stage. At the full liquid stage I was lowed to fortify my full liquids with marvel. A tablespoon mixed straight into a cup of skimmed milk or a cup of tomato soup. Need to make sure it is well mixed.
It hasn't agreed with me to be honest & seems to cause a mucusy type of reaction & has even come back up as a white foamy mess. Looked like a rabied dog LOL good luck with it as its a great source of protein. Just check with your dietician.

Is it best to start counting straight away or wait till ur passed the liquid stage?

From memory marvel has around 36 g of protein per 100g ie Each GM of the powder you use will have 0.36 g of protein. So 10g will have 3.6 g etc etc
You need to check back of tin which will have the nutritional info on it to make sure.
As I said I was advised not to worry about my protein level in the initial fluid stage but gently introduce it at the full fluid stage usually week 4 post op sleeve. Then start counting how much protein & also calories you are having per day. I keep a daily diary & I also not any good or bad reactions so that when I introduce something new I have a record to show the dietician it's really easy to do & only takes a few minutes every day. As I said be careful as I can't tolerate the milk powder. I also have seemed to have the same reaction to my powder based items e.g. Option low fat drinks, ovaltine low fat drinks & instant coffee. This kind of tells me that it is powders that are not agreeing with me. Good luck

Mr Patel has told me that you really don't need to worry about protein too much with a bypass - it's the DS patients that need to be rigid - he said if you are having a health balanced diet (after all the stages) then you should be getting between 40-60g protein a day and that is sufficient. It's amazing how they all suggest different things. Good luck with the marvel - I find skimmed milk creamy enough I could not bare the thought of having to add to it! x

Dani the protein is vey important... protein is what makes us lose the weight... also without enough protein you will suffer hair loss. x
I use marvel in my milk which i use for te and hot choc... i make up half a pint in the morning and just put in 1 tablespoon. also if i make a stew or hotpot etx.. i sometimes add a tablespoon x

That is what I thought - however Mr P said that it's the Zinc that is important for the hair cycle - hence he put's all his patients on additional zinc supplements 3 times a day (in addition to multivits)... I have kept to 40-60g protein a day and am happy with my WL so far.
I will let you know when I need you to knit me a hat! LOL x
