I got to thinking since my mum and dad have been up about eating out
Is there a point where you can go out for a meal and eat "normally" !
We've had two meals out now and it just got me thinking.

Not eaten out myself since the op - but we do not eat out often anyway. I will be interested to hear of others banders experience.

I been out too different restaurants ( harvester, local indian etc) and I ate a starter ( prawn cocktail) from harvester as the main meal, and when I went too the indian I just had chicken tikka bhuna ( obviously smaller portion) without rice and other bits coz it would have been a waste lol, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.......What I normally do is order a drink as soon as I get in there and drink it and then order about 15 mins later and that gives it time in between drinking and eating ( for the drinking/eating rule etc) HTH xxx

i have really good restriction at the mo and eat out every week my family and friends who i eat out with know i have my band and know im always the last one to finish the meal by a long way they are used to it i know ill get killed now but try not to test your band too much( i mean not really dense hard foods) because the pressure to eat the food usually results in my band getting tighter and i end up most of the night back and foward to the toilet. I have found reciently a childs menu is great for smaller portions or a starter when every one eats a big meal is good then you arnt struggling when every one has finished . Take for instant the other night we went for a indian i had two starters chicken tikka and some bombay potato to share and a onion bajhi that was lovely!! Its all about what you choose so dont let your band stop you from doing anything you done before you had it, eating out was always part of my life birthdays and celebrations etc and its continued now !xx

I have been to pizza hut , had fish and chips at the seaside with the family and so on.
Just don't be afraid to order things tailored to what you can have.
Ask for sauces on the side, maybe avoid pasta and bready options. You can have meat and veg without chips/potatoes etc or have a childs version.

Ask for a takeout/'doggy bag box if you want.
Miss the starter or have the starter as your main.

Take your time to eat slow, people are usually busy giving attention to their own food to scrutinise how and what you are eating.

Meals out are about being with your family and enjoying each others company so relax and have what you know will work ok from trial and error at home and just go at your own pace and don't worry about leaving what you aren't sure you can manage.

I fully intend to eat out and im excited that instead of buying a family bucket from KFC for just me and hubby, i can be happy with 1 piece and save loads of dosh!

.......all in moderation i will add!

Hi,

I also make sure I order my drink right away. I tend to go for just a main meal and leave the potatoes or whatever carbs come with it. the good thing is that you can can do that and still feel full. I never have a sweet anymore or want one which is amazing for me because I have a sweet tooth. I might just pinch a taste of someone elses just for the taste but Im satisfied with that.

We also used to love a take away curry every now and again so i now have just a mixed tikka type starter and some popadoms. Not very healthy I know but it would be a treat and not too carb heavy and very tasty. takes me as long to eat that as it does my husband to eat a starter and full curry.

It does save you a few pennies as well, which is a good thing.

Hi, I'm a sleever, no band but still have a smaller area to fill. I can eat out and do, I just order a starter as my main course and have never managed to eat more than half of that but someone else at the table has a chip and I want one I'll usually pinch it off their plate lol.
My best friend has a band and we're going to go to MacDonalds and ask for a cheese burger and a knife as we know we could only eat half each.
