Hi. I am new to this site.. I have been reading it for weeks and it has helped me loads. I have saved the money and now got my first meeting next week...... I can't wait to get started on this road to a better life.
What can I expect at my first meeting, does anyone know how quick you can get the op done. I am having the Band.

I got sick of being fobbed off by my doctor..... Everyone looking down on me... Some people have no idea what a decision it is and a relief to get the ball rolling

I imagine that was really frustrating. Hopefully as you have now saved up and can go private, things should move along quite quickly, and so you can get stuck in to surgery!

Hi Mia, it took me 3 weeks from consultation to band being fitted, I am not sure if that is usual but I was v pleased as was v anxious and didn't want to have to wait for ages, I was banded last Tuesday and fingers crossed all is going to plan so far, welcome, gems x

am doing okay, had a lot of wind pain and am still v sore but trying to get out and about a lot and walk it off, trying to be good with the food, glad I went ahead with it although I was v anxious prior to the op x

It depends on the surgeons availability often. However it can be a really short time to wait, ie less than a week potentially, if there is a cancellation ... It may be longer depending also on whether or not you have a prep diet to complete. Most providers want some liver shrinkage prior to the op to make it a safer procedure. How exciting for you ... Hi Mia

I went for my first consultation on 8th of May and I am being banded next Tuesday 28th May, so subject to availability of a surgeon it can be quick. Have had to do a 10 day pre op diet to shrink my liver and have pre op appointment to see surgeon and have blood tests.

This site is great though - loads of advice from so many people at different stages of their journey.

Hi Mia you are reading my thoughts entirely I have my appointment on Wednesday 5 th June and I can not wait to get this done lets hope it's soon after the appointment will keep you posted my end where are you ? I'm in Norfolk .

The nearer the time for my consultation the more anxious I am becoming... My BMI doesn't quite fit the criteria can they refuse to do the Band I want..... I have struggled for years and know this is the only way to get my life back......Any advice

Hi Mia,

You can't change your BMI, so it's about going along clear why you need the band, how you're motivated to change, and what you're already doing to prepare yourself.

Mine is 5th July ages away... but I was told provisionally on the phone I could probably have it done on the 10th August in Birmingham obviou4 this date might be fully booked by the time I get there
