More questions!

Hey everyone,

I've just received a letter from University College London Hospital with four appointment dates.

18th August - appt. with Clinical Nurse Specialist

28th September (10.30am) - appt. with Bariatric Dietitian

28th September (1.15pm) - appt. with Consult Surgeon

7th October - appt. with Bariatric Psychologist

I am still very confused as to what is happening in regards to funding, etc. so does this mean I've been approved, or will that be decided after my appointments? I am extremely happy just to finally have this appointment letter in my hand, but I would really like to know if these appointments are a good sign, or just standard procedure. Anyone know?

Oh, and I'm sorry if the answers to my questions are already located on the forum, I just have limited time and access to this website, so don't yell at me! lol

I think they are going through the motions of getting you in the system - they are certainly being extremely thorough so dont worry - think they need to actually see you before they apply for funding but I could be wrong - what was your understanding with your GP? Was he to apply for funding for you or is it the hospital? If its the hospital then I would hazard a guess and say funding is to be applied for - just going by The Whittington protocol

My GP didn't really tell me anything about funding. She just weighed me and measured my waist, booked me in for blood tests and told me she'd send a referral out. The entire appointment took all of about 4 minutes.


Okay, I've just had a very dimwitted moment! I didn't check the very last page of the letter the hospital sent me, which says "No one person in the team will block (or determine) your treatment." so yes I think you're right about them needing to see me before applying for funding. I feel so thick now lol.

i had to have funding in place before seeing anyone all areas are different ,but the best way to find out is call the number on the letter and ask they will know good luck x

i 2 had to be accpeted before they saw me... which took 2 weeks. not long at all... i also had 4 appiotments before i saw the surgeon - its takes about 9 months from 1 st session untill u get the op on the nhs they said to me because they have to make sure your mentally and emotionaly stable. what area do u live? u can always ring the hospital and see if the pct will fund you they will give u answer straight away if you have as they pct dont actually contact you in many cases. i do hope you have xx

I think the lady on the phone said that if my GP had referred me, I'd have met the NICE guidelines and the funding should all be sorted? I'm trying to suppress a squeal of joy right now, because I wouldn't put it past me to have misheard her, lol. I hope not!

i also met the NICE guidelines so the funding was in place right from the start. im happy for you i was so glad when mine came through. xx
