I have my first appointment on Monday (whoo hooo doing cartwheels in my head) and although i have a couple of questions (bad planning i know but i thought i wouldn't be seen for at least another five weeks) does anyone have any suggestions as to other things i should be asking apart from those below:

1. Bypass or band?
2. When will you expect to do it?
3. How long will i be off work afterwards?
4. How long do you anticipate my stay in hospital to do?
5. Is there anything i can do to help make it easier?

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Hi there

Mine was a group meeting but we were encouraged to ask whatever we wanted...no matter how trivial you think it is, just ask.

If it goes along the same lines as the group meeting, a lot of this time was devoted to explaining all the procedures and there could be some form filling about your eating habits and your past dieting efforts.

I hope everything goes really well for you...don't forget to let us know how it goes.

Good luck

(((hugs)))

when I went I was weighed and then I saw Ana she will ask you questions about your eating habits and show you diagras of both band and bypass ect and will then suggest which she thinks will be best for you and she will do some drawings and then you go and see Dr Hartland who you ask questions ect and again will draw pictures but as I had researched this for approx 3 months I knew what I wanted so was much easier for them and me they just agreed with me :D

Oh and well done for getting your appointment it is amazing what a phone call can do

Ask if there is anything that your Doctor needs to get checked out, I had to be referred for sleep apnea.

Walsall only do bypasses they do not do bands.

Good luck with your Appt x

I don't know what hospital you are going to but my hospital, Birmingham Heartlands, wouldn't even get into the surgery with me. After speaking with their clinical director, this is the normal course of treatment. It was a lot of questions about how I got this way, eating habits and I had to promise to make some changes. They will then see me in 3 months and we will discuss surgery from this point.

Good luck at your appointment.

4 years ago i went to Heartlands to pursue wls and was advised what surgery would suit my eating habits (bypass) and then sent onto the dietician. Then due to personal circumstances at home i missed an appointment. I rang as soon as i realised but no good, you miss the appt you get discharged back to you gp! Just so you know....

Oh yes and asking about aftercare will be one of my many questions!
