:( Just as the title says really .... The heels of both my feet now are so painful ..

My right heel has been bothering me for a while But now they even hurt when i get out of bed in the morning :(
when i get up from the sofa its like im 80 hobbling out of the room ooching and ouching as i go and walking upstairs is just somthing i dread.

My 5yr old often gets up in the night and comes downstairs and me and OH take it in turns to go up with him and i dread my turn :( ....

is ther anything i can do to ease this?

Why oh Why cant my OH see what this is doing to me and say ok book your OP :(

I have exactly the same problem. Whenever I've been sat for a few minutes I hobble like an old lady once I get up again. I also over pronate (turn inward on my feet) which makes it worse. My gp told me it would be an 18 month wait to see someone at the hospital about it and she reccommended I get inserts for my shoes in the meantime. I beleive the condition is called plantar fascitiis.

I bought some Scholl gel heel cups and they help a lot.

Yeah thats what my doc told me i have .... if im standing i tend to stand on the outsides of my feet to ease it a bit ....
I wear trainers 24/7 cos it tends to help a little ... (stops the hobble)
but saying that even when im sat on the sofa with my feet up i can still feel my heels aching .. :(

trying to rush anywhere once being sat is a complete no no :( ggrrrrr

Aww bless... I know a lot of us have a lot of foot pain... hope you can ease and soothe them precious... thinking of you xxx

Yup - definately sounds like plantar fascitis (not sure how its spelt!) It hurts like heck when you've been sitting or lying down for a bit and have to get up...

I've had it a couple of times and have had to resort to injections in the heel/sole of my foot - they sting a little but they do work.... I'd see your GP for a referral. First time I had the injection my GP did it, but second I had to go to othorpedics outpatients.

Best advice is not to wear flat shoes as they can aggravate the problem. Wear about 1/2 - 1 inch heels if you can. You would probably also benefit from shoes or boots with thicker soles too or trainers.

You can get insoles which are moulded to correct your gait and put these inside your shoes from Boots but they are quite expensive, or gel heel inserts as Yorkie said do work - they are a bit cheaper or you might get some on prescription from the doc if you get free prescriptions its worthwhile asking for this. They have to be replaced frequently though to get best effect.

My doc first prescribed things like movalot/ibulieve gel but to be honest they didn't do much for me... but they might work for you. Massage in whenever you like. I also took pain killers to help with the pain.

Another tip, when you get up out of bed in the morning (or middle of night), don't immediately stand up and start to walk... do a little massage on your feet and some stretches - pointing toes, moving ankle, circling foot etc. It helps to 'warm up' a bit.

but don't suffer with this for too long... there is treatment that works out there!

I think we take our feet for granted and when they start to play up - boy do we notice it...

I'm always troubled with my feet - not pf at the moment thankfully, just aching and throbbing all the time - even in bed. Not only have they had 40 years of excess weight to carry around, I also have diabetes and I think that the padding on the soles/balls of my feet are definitely getting thinner - sometimes if feels like I'm walking on marbles! I'm having trouble getting shoes that I can walk in - I can't wear the normal court shoes as they rub, or I can feel every lump and piece of grit on the path through them. My toes are very sensitive at the moment too; so I'm stuck in trainers too.

So I truly sympathise with you Piratess - our feet are definitely something that we need to take better care of.

You can get boots to wear overnight for PF which keep your feet in a certain position. They sell them in disability aid shops and on the Internet.

There are lots on eBay, I just searched for plantar night.

Thanks so much everyone for your replies ...

we sure do take our feet for granted ... when i went to my docs she said oh yes youve got plantar its because of your weight! ..
and that was the extent of our conversation. I think im definatly going to look into those gel heel thingys.

Maybe ill go back and ask to see somone else ..

Thanks everyone xx

Hi Piratess.

My hubby has just got over plantar fascitiis (he walks for miles and is slim, so not due to weight in his case), the doctor gave him some exercises to do using the stairs at home. the other thing that has helped him is to use a foot spa (without water, just vibrations) in the evening when he is watching telly.

He was in lots of pain with it, and it lasted about six months. Amazon also do a book (well more a pamphlet really), but it does show you exercises to do.

Maybe you could ask your gp to give you the recommended exercises to do? I would not be able to explain them to you, but when he is home I will see if he got a sheet from gp with them on, and if so will email to you.
