Myocardial Perfusion whilst on pre-op diet

Because I have a leaky heart valve, I've got to go for a myocardial perfusion tomorrow (nuclear imaging for my heart) and I have to take a sandwich along with me to have between the injection and the actual procedure. They said it should be a full fat cheese or egg mayo sandwich. The problem is, I'm having my surgery on Saturday and am on low cal pre-op diet. I'm only supposed to have a small amount of carbs, so don't really want to have two slices of bread.

Any suggestions what I should do? xx

I really think you should speak to your medical team about it. Obviously they must have a reason they want you to eat carbs in the knowledge you're due for bariatric surgery. It may well be just one sandwich won't have too much of an adverse effect on your glycogen levels which should have dropped again by the weekend, as long as you stick rigidly to pre-op diet.

Not quite sure what to advice really. Maybe make the sandwich and ask when you get there what they advise. Good luck with your appt.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll take the sandwich with me and ask them when I get there. If I don't have any carbs at all between now and the op, other than the 2 slices of bread, hopefully it will be ok. xx

Hun i would def give ur Bariatric team a call and see what they advise xx

Yeah speak to your bariatric team. That said ...... it's the fat stuff they want in your system I presume? So ask them if you could just bring some full fat egg mayo along and eat that. As this won't affect your carb intake and your liver should really be effected as glycogen will still be depleted

Back from the hospital. I just had half the sandwich, they said that was ok.

My blood pressure (which is normally sky high) dropped really low and they had to lie me down - I thought I was going to pass out. Horrid feeling.

The good thing is that they don't need to do any more tests before the surgery and they have given the green light for it to go ahead. Woohoo!!!

I'll be like a pin cushion by the time I've finished - I've had needles in both arms and a cannula in my hand today. It's a good job I'm not a cartoon character - there would be fluids shooting out of all the needle holes like a collander! xx

:silly:
