Hi all.......i'm 3 years post op and all my muscle seems to be wasted or wasting.
What can i do?

Hiya, I'm 17 months post op and was doing a lot of exercise. That really helped keeping my muscles firm. However I've been really ill and before that had a very bad back. Consequently for the last 5 months I haven't been able to exercise at all. The effect on my muscles is shocking. My calfs are totally soft and I don't have any buttocks at all. hope to start running again when I'm better but at the moment just walking is a challenge. I hope someone who can advise us will be along soon xx

There are still some exercise you can do sitting down doesnt have to involve standing and dancing around, any good fitness trainer or gym instructor would help ya also I am big believer in pilates uses all your core muscles and builds up your core strength you exercise gently but its very effective but you do needto speak to an instructor thye have to know what kind of medical issued you have before you start. I have a problem with my knee cannot kneel on it at all so wheneva they did exercise like that He gave me different ones todo but that had the same toning effect. Seek help there are some brill people out there, most docs now use people like that to recommend patients to. x good luck x

Thanks Chris, have walked a little today and am starting a physio back class in the New Year. I've been exhausted since coming out of hospital with a gall bladder and bile duct infection and cannot get over my lack of energy ! I realise that I had become very used to my active lifestyle and am missing it now.
Well done on your Christmas weight loss btw !
xx

My immediate advice is, vastly increase your protein intake. Lean protein from any good source is essential for all tissue build-up and repair.

Start a gentle but regular strength-building routine. You don't have to 'go for the burn' to benefit from exercise. Increasing lean muscle tissue will also slightly increase the weight you see reflected on your scales, so don't panic! Muscle weighs more than fat. Happily increasing muscle mass also boosts metabolism.

Weight-bearing exercise is essential for bone health and density, so bear that in mind.

Good luck!
