Nerves setting in now..Having a gastro camera done in morning

emma-louise

my new life!!
I'm not a mardy person...but I'm actually getting a bit scared now!
Having a camera down the throat to try and identify why I'm getting my stomach problems.
Having the bypass 3 years ago,I need answers now..
I keep telling myself I went without morphine after the bypass, and out home after a night..I can do this too!
I'm choosing to go without sedation as I want to get home and done...
Wish me luck..and pray for me...lol

Is it an endoscopy ? I had it without sedation, they prefer it too and I was ready and going home before the girl before me was even awake. They aren't pleasant but they r necessary to finding out what ur problems are and a means to sorting them out for u. My tip is to listen to what they tell u and remain calm. If I can do it anyone can bcoz my gag reflex is ridiculous haha, good luck chicka hope all goes well xx

Yes I'm having one of these...I'll try and stay calm..lol

awww bless easy said than done I know but its over really quickly and they were lovely with me, I was dry heaving before they put the camera in hahaha I am such a gagga hahaha brushing my teeth is horrendous, but it was as bad as I thought, think its more the fear of the unknown. I too had no pain killer after bypass and was out the next day, if we can do that we can get through this too. Stay calm, lie back and think happy thoughts :D x

Aww thanks x
You have eased my mind a little,I think I'll be fine.
Like you say it's the fear of the unknown, and I'm going to the hospital on my own.

Hi Emma its been a while since we spoke on here. I am 2 years post op now. I have very few days where I have pain now thankfully. Do have buscopan when ever I feel the need for it so that seems to sort it. I know that I cannot where anything remotely tight around my waist or tummy, if so I get pain after sitting for a while and if I eat then it is worse, belts are a no no most of the time even when not tight they still give me some pain. I avoid tight things now just common sense really.

Hope your endoscopy goes well don't worry just take the spray and make sure ya swallow it all. Breathe through it it doesn't last that long, the nurse usually talks you through it. They may take a biopsy if so sometimes that is like a stomach cramp instead of it going across the tummy mine went down from belly button or just above down to pelvic region, lasted for seconds then it went. The nurse just kept stroking my hair and telling me to keep breathing slowly and then it was over I got straight off the bed sat in the other room for 10mintues then was allowed back to see nurse who said all was done and results of biopsies will be through post. or gp. Then went home its the waiting around the procedure doesn't take long at all. xxx

Although I know you will be fine hun I will be thinking of you today Emma ...Good Luck x

Hi chrisa,

I'm still on the good old buscopan too,and like you tight jeans lets are a no no.
The endoscopy was horrid,I went without the sedative but its done now.
The doctor didn't say much,only I have some inflammation(where I'm not sure?)
I'm not sure what's going to happen now,as I need my bowel area checking for twisting and this camera doesn't reach that far.
So I'll have to wait and see...
Are you near to your target now?
Take care x

Hi Emma, pleased you did it, the bowel one will be going up I would think, to check for the twisting. It isn't the nicest to experience. I had sites of inflammation before the op so had lansoprasole prescribed then got letter to go back in 6 weeks and all was well. Think sedation is the way to go for the other end, not nice all that pushing n shoving. Thankfully I rarely have them episodes, but nice to hear someone else has the same problems with tight clothes. I am at no specific goal. I have lost over 10 stone but bout 5lb has gone back on since Christmas but it has stabilised. I weigh 14 st 10. To most people that would be really obese. I am a size 18 in most clothes.I am 5 ft 6/7 and some people don't think I look that heavy but that has always been the case for me. The hospital were really pleased when I went at the end of July just 20 days before my 2 year surgiversary. The dietician and surgeon both said that I was a healthy weight from the weight I started at. THey think I have lost the required amount they would have expected me too and I was discharged. I have lose skin but not loads. I can put nice fitting things on but when you sit down the loose folds come out and one sits on my waist band and I think people must be thinking my clothes are too tight they are not just the spare skin has to go somewhere. I fid sitting with any restrictive clothing on whilst eating or drinking is a nono and I thank heavens for leggings and nice thigh length tops. At the grand age of 47 I have come such a very long way still have some loo problems like we used to talk about some dyas fine some days not. At the moment dumplings are a no-no. I eat everything else just the last 2 times they have stuck so off them for a little while. Still have my meal on a tea plate. Lovely to hear from you and hope you get this sorted and put to bed once and for all xx

Well done Emma. It's an uncomfortable procedure but over fairly quickly. If you are going for a colposcopy I would suggest you ask for light sedation. I have a high pain threshold (I get fillings without a local if I can help it) and they did my colposcopy without anything but I struggled to relax with this procedure ;)

Well I had it done without sedation,
It was horrid!..however I felt real brave after I'd one it.
The nurses was lovely and helped me throughout.
However...the results came back as nothing showing up sinister, which is good!
But Saturday and Sunday my stomach was bloated and in pain.
So I just don't know what happens now....the gastroscopy hasn't picked up anything, but I'm still suffering.
I just don't know what to do,I can't imagine having to go through life with this pain as its happening most days.
It's starting to get me down if I'm honest

You poor thing :( Have the hospital suggested anything?

Nothing yve,
It don't know what to do,I feel a bit like...
I've made my bed and should lay in it.
My mother supports me,but deep down she didn't want me to have this done.
So it's hard to talk to anyone about the problems I'm having.

But you did this for better health - not on a whim. When I finally went for it I honestly believe I had no choice - it was life or death. I would keep badgering them.

Its about time they had an answer as to why this pain is occurring something has to be happening and they have to find it. I am thankful that its very rare now that I get them, too much bread used to give me them especially if I had white stead of brown. Peas n sweetcorn in the same meal nearly killed me one night the pain was unbearable. Lasted for bout 5 gours even rang urgent care but no help. Eventually it eased and disappeared, are they checking or have they checked your bowel? I think my bowel has twisted at times hence the pain, but never been fully confirmed only they thought it was bowel colic. Hope you get some HELP AND ANSWERS SOOOOOONNNN!!!!!!

Hi chrisa,
When I mentioned I thought it was a twisted bowel the doctors haven't took me seriously.
From what I have read twisted vowel is a serious condition, and if I had this I wouldn't be eating etc..I'd just be really sick.
But I tried explaining the pain occurs when I bend, crouch and do strenuous activities.
So to me it's commen sense,I'm still convinced a part of the bowel kinks when I bend, and eases when I rest.
On saying that when I'm stressed and upset I can get the pain.
The doctors have told me I may well have to live with this if they cannot pick anything up...and up to now I've had
2 body scans one with dye,a gastroscopy, bloods checked...and nothing has shown up.
At times it gets me down x
