Hey all, I am new to the site and think it's great and inspiring to read all your stories!

I have been to see my GP who was very supportive but he wanted time to findout what he had to do to get me refferred.

So after waiting 2 weeks to go back to see him I am really looking forward to starting the ball rolling, so i goes out of the house this morning only to find that the car was dead, no not good!so I phone the surgery who have no more appointments until tuesday. After hearing this I burst into tears, poor lady on the phone...... she handled it really well! She got my GP to phone me later on and he was again very supportive, so I go tuesday to discuss it with him.

I have now pulled myself together and felt so silly when I spoke to him for booing! Just proves to me how much I want this I suppose

So who know's what I will be like if do get funding!

Just wondered how others had dealt with the timescale nvolved in waiting for a yes or no, at the moment I can't think of anything else!

Hi Taz,

Welcome to Mini's :) Do you know which PCT you come under? We can help you find out what the criteria are for you.

There is loads of info on here about all the different types of surgery, and people's experiences. Jump in and get to know everyone. And if you have any questions, just shout!

Hello and Welcome....:D

I guess it's hard to say about timescales, it varies so much from PCT to PCT.

The only advice I can give is ask for your local PCT fundings phone number, and a week after the Doc applies for funding, get on the phone every week to them and keep asking how its going.

This is what my Doc asked me to do from the beginning of April and it seemed to work as it took about 5-6 weeks to go through. I was away when it came through, so was 7 weeks before I knew about it.

Then I had to go back to GP to choose a hospital and have a weigh in and bloods taken.

From that date I got a letter from the hospital with consultant appointment for 4th August, he talked to me for an hour and we decided on a Band. Then he set a date of October 14th....started pre-op diet on 24th and had appointments with dietician, endo and psych between that and operation date.

So in total took about 30 weeks.

So begins the journey of the waiting game .. you don't have a choice on how to handle things really - just hang in there! And feel free to sound off at us at any time!

Hi there and welcome to mini's you wont regret this, even if it takes a while we will be here to support you in your wait.

I went private instead of waiting, my PCT has no details of criteria posted and with a BMI of 50 i did not want to wait through all the try these diets ie orlistat ect then get rejected. Having yoyoed for years i decided to finance it. I got lucky there and realise not everyone can do so... but hang in there all will work itself out

Thanks for your reply's it's sooo nice to have so much support around. Will let you know how I get on Tuesday, although I am sure that I meet my PCT's criterea after discussing with my GP and looking on the net. Fingers crossed! will be back soon xx

Hi and :welcome: I asked my GP and then forgot about it, I've been a fatty for over 45 years, so what's another year.
Some get it all done within six months or less, others take much longer, if you allow it to be constantly in your thoughts it's going to be a very unhappy time for you.
The time to start getting agitated is when they give you a date for surgery but until then just live your life and stay

your right crafty, i have so much going on at the moment, for instance should be writing an essay for uni right now and although I have deadlines to meet here I am reading all these fab WLS stories instead of focusing on the here and now......i must forget...i must forget lol

welcome to mini's Taz.

Taz and good luck when you go to your GP. x
