Hello to all,

I had my gastric bypass operation on the 27th of Nov last year so it hasn't been long.....7 weeks to be exact

Seem to have alot of mucus coming up whenever i try eating something other than pureed foods. Going to see my surgeon, will see if he can offer any advice on where i'm going wrong :sigh:

Welcome Bubbly and sorry to hear of your eating difficulties. Hope your surgeon sorts something out for you soon :) x

I have that when I eat too fast or too much.

Thank you, i have read it is quite common in bariatric patients, but its getting a little annoying at times so just sticking to yoghurts, pureed fruit and weetabix

hope you manage to get sorted out xxx take care I wonder if you're having too much milky things I know it can cause mucus and flegm xx

I get this occasionally, always if I eat too much and sometimes if I eat too quickly, if the texture is too dry or I haven't chewed enough. I had my op 19th December and am on lumps.

hi bubbly i had my gastric bypass 21st nov and i get that when i eat too fasr or too much x

I have no idea why i get it, maybe i am having too much dairy, but thats because its the only food that i enjoy, my love of pizza's has well and truly disappeared ... :)

How are u getting on Audra, can u manage soft foods yet? Xx

hi bubbly yes im eating anything now even bread love ham salad sandwich lol altho i can only manage 1 slice x

Thats brilliant, maybe i'm not eating different foods because im scared they might get stuck lol

I still have this fear three months on! I was terrified of food getting stuck until only four weeks ago. I had a lot of problems with narrowing which didn't help but now even in spite of the problems I can eat 90% of things without problems. You will inevitably find foods you can't manage (vegetarian sausage rolls made me terribly sick!) but it is a learning process and you'll get there as soon as you're ready. But you have to dip your toe in slowly and see what does and doesn't work for you. At this stage, even with narrowing I was managing a good soft diet and crispy things like Crackerbread with Philly. Be brave and try new things - just chew everything reallllllly well! I so think the mucus is from eating too quickly and not chewing properly, that is exactly what I had. Good luck :)

Awww....thank you for ur kind words, i think you may be right law student, i may be eating too fast, trying to train myself to eat very slowly is A little difficult after years of eating very fast and on the go... lol...its funny when i cant digest a tablespoon of fish pie but i can have a jacobs cream cracker lol, i am taking it very very slow.....there are times when i can have my forceival vit tablet with no difficulty but then there are times when i feel it getting stuck..... :)

I gave up on forcival within a week as it constantly got stuck! I take Boots own multivitamin, and drink LOTS of milk!

Even now (today) some well chewed chicken stew made me sick, but yesterday the same thing didn't! It really is something that can change day by day. I can tolerate bread perfectly but otherwise it is just wait and see each day lol!

I eat slowly and I chew very very very well, that stopped the mucus for me. I hope it all smooths out soon for you xx

Thanks, i'm sure i'll be fine :)

Its nice reading about everyones experiences. I must admit i didnt experience any problems after my operation....it was smooth sailing, no pain whatsoever, even the nurses at the clinic were shocked at how little morphine i had taken, but i didnt see any point taking it if i wasnt in any pain lol....did have a slight problem with the major wound not healing but leaking, just kept changing dressing until it healed up....and i didnt have any stitches, just glue!!!....had alot of support from family though :)

If i can conquer this mucus and phlem then i can honestly say that having the gastric bypass is the best decision i have ever made.....i'm not even obsessed with how much weight i lose each week, i'm weighing myself every four weeks and taking pics so i can look back and notice the change when i have achieved my goal....which is weird because i've not really set myself a target or goal either :) xx

My journey hasn't been quite so smooth but my weight loss has been very good which has kept me going through the not so happy times! I feel great for the weight loss, both emotionally and physically and I know this will help me to live longer and better so for that I am always grateful. X

Oh no, i'm sorry to hear that, well to be honest before i found this website i was constantly talking to my dad about things, his journey wasnt so smooth either, he had an infection in his wounds and was sickly pale all the time...he has acid reflux, he couldnt eat or drink much and had to go into hospital due to narrowing where his food was getting stuck etc...but i was always there for him, preparing his meals etc, every step of the way, reading all the material he was given so when i had my op, i was well prepared.

I have noticed my taste buds have changed, he used to complain abt salt in the food, even though i never added salt to his meals...i seem to be finding everything sweet, eg- couldnt eat muller yoghurt or even a ritz cracker as i could taste vaste amounts of sugar!!!! Yuk....im going off at a tangent again lol....what i meant to say is before i found this website and all the lovely pple on here, i would always discuss any issues or thoughts i had with my dad, but now i come on here, so never think of urself as alone, we are always here, any questions u may have or even if ur having a down day....i'm a good listener :) ....xx

Thanks for sharing your op details bubbly enjoyed reading i hope you have managed to sort out ur mucus problems. x

Thanks Rickysmrs's :)

It should soon sort itself out no doubt....its all trial and error in the early days.

All the best with ur op too xx
