Hi everyone
My name is Richard and i have been fighting to get gastric bypass surgery for 3 years now, but the time has now come and i have one more week to wait for my surgery which should be on the 9/01/11 any advise would be apreciated as i am quite nervy about whats going to happen although the pre op diet is a challenge so that takes your mind off other things.:D

Hi and :welcome: to WLS .... Your surgery is on my birthday :D Good luck with it! Its normal to be nervous, Im sure all of us have suffered with nerves on and off whilst waiting for our surgery! Just try and concentrate on the positives surgery will bring you! Im only 3 months out and I already feel soooooo much better. No diabetes meds since surgery and no high blood pressure tablets either..how great is that? You have waited so long for your surgery so enjoy every second of it :D XX

Welcome Richard
someone will be along soon about the diet but just wanted to say hello

:welcome2:

You'll be on an emotional roller-coaster now, just sit back & enjoy the ride. I'll tell you from a personal experience what happened to me. Went in hospital Friday night, had my op Saturday morning & was sat in the chair next to my bed in my pj's within 20 minutes of returning to the ward after my op. Had very little pain or discomfort. I got my fella to smuggle me some deflatine into hospital as the peppermint capsules that I was given were of no help.

I was a text book bypass patient until few weeks ago & now I can't tolerate many foods. But I don't care as my life no longer revolves around food & my bypass was the best thing I ever did ;)

Take care :)

Welcome & Good luck!! Xx

Hello and :welcome: to this fantastic forum!
You're nearly there now! As the others have said.. it can all be quite emotional, so don't worry this is very normal.
My surgery went smoothly and I was also a textbook patient. I'm only 3 weeks out though.
What hospital are you having your op at?
Good luck!

hiya and welcome xxxx you have waited so long for this and you will do great i'm sure, it is certainly a rollercoaster of emotions just console yourself in the fact that it's nearly over and you can get on with a great New Year xxxxxxxxx god luck xxx

Hi Richard and welcome........The best advice i can give to you is, stick to the rules of the bypass and respect your pouch, and the rest will happen for you! All the best matee xx

Hi there and welcome - have a nosey around the different threads and look specifically for food options whilst you are on liquids, purees etc. And specific questions, give us a shout! Where are you located?

Hello & a really big welcome , I am actually 4days behind you & start the pre op diet on saturday & to be honest i havent given the surgery a thought but im sure its lurking in the back of my head somewhere !!! Stay focused & good luck xx

Hi Richard, a newbie to this great site too, and like undecided (...are you?) maybe 6 months behind you. Best wishes Trisha

Hi Richard, I had my bypass just over a year ago (4/12/09) and got to goal at 8 months post op. I've had a relatively easy ride with no food causing a problem. The 2 times I've had a problem have both been caused by dehydration so I would advise you to drink drink drink and to follow your surgeons rules. Its perfectly normal to feel nervous. Good luck with your surgery and welcome to the site. Stella

Pre op diet is hell but promise will get easy when you have got through the first four days it will soon pass and you'll be on this side you may have a little pain but I was back at work after 1 week and my friend 10 days before he was back at work don't worry every one has thease thoughs but promise just gets better cannot lie and say easy cause it's not but you'll be fine listen to your body it will tell you when it's ready to do things again
After your op I was put in high dependacy unit and only allowed a damp towel to wet mouth but they look after your pain also will have 10 days of injections for clots bypass normally in for 2-3 days start off on liquids then move onto sloppy food then soft then move on to normal but this takes weeks everyone different
Also size off portions will drop big style and eat slower too that helps
Good luck

Sending a huge welcome and wishing you every success on your wls journey... love and hugs xxx
