Hi all, I have just started the process to getting WLS...which one is still up in the air.

It seems like many of you are outside of the US? I am in the US, where insurance approval for WLS sucks!

So, to be approved I have to do. 6 months diet with my GP before they will even consider scheduling me with the surgeon. The bad part is that I actually kind of did it with my GP, but she only saw me every 3 months and the insurance want me to weigh in every month :-( so, rather than argue, i'm just going to do it to make sure it actually gets approved and paid!

So I'm using the time to research ...

Welcome !

Yes there are members from all over the place, but many on here are in the UK.

It can be a long process for us as well if we are going down the NHS route rather than paying privately. The normal story if you can pay you can have anything quickly... But many are turned down by the NHS so have no option but to go private.

I know I had to jump through hoops for over a year before I was put forward for funding. Luckily for me they said yes, but I could have done all that with a big NO at the end.

I wish you luck with your funding, and yes make the most of these 6 months with your GP with trying to loose some weight for the op and for doing research, research and more research. I have learned a whole load from this site. Regards trisha

Hello and welcome to the forum x

Thank you so much for your welcomes!

As I've been reading through the comments and blogs in here and this is probably silly to those of you in the UK, but what are 'crisps'? I'm guessing potato chips?

It's a bit like in the US there's people who call coke or pepsi 'pop' or 'soda' depending on what part of of the country they are in. Years ago it was all soda pop.

LOL the International translator not working!! Yes I am pretty sure Crisps are your potato chips. Cheese and onion, salt and vinegar, ready salted etc etc. There is lots of reading to do, so I am sure you will come up with some more English English Vs American English translations.

Hi and welcome,

If there are any words you are not sure of just ask, there are lots of friendly people here to help.
Good luck with your insurance I hope you get the approval soon

Hi and welcome to minis x

Hiya luv yes crisps are chips and I call any drink wether it be dilute or fizzy...pop lol
There is a couple on here from the US so your not alone Hun, but we welcome any1 no matter where your from... Were all going through the same thing so we can be here for each other.... Plus this has got to be the best site about. Xxxx welcome to the family xxxx

:welcome: to the forum!
Timeframes over here in the UK are also quite long (on the National Health Service) unless you can pay privately. And from what I understand from my hospital, they are getting even longer now that so many more people are interested in weight loss surgery.
Good luck with your journey!

Hiya, welcome, good luck on your journey

Everyone has been so very helpful here, I'm glad I found the site!

I just discovered another figure of speech between the UK and the US...I read several posts where laparoscopic surgery was refered to as keyhole surgery! Occasionally I've heard it called bandaid surgery, but keyhole is new to me but a perfect explanation for it.

Hope you're enjoying reading through the threads and numerous posts. How's the dreaded diet going...don't you just hate the word diet!!! lol x

The dreaded diet isn't going very well, thanks for asking!

It's going to be a balancing act to prove to the insurance co that I can't lose weight (and keep it off) through normal diets and to the doctors that I can do a diet after surgery!
