I am only starting my wls journey! So would love to communicate with people who are having they surgery at st. Georges hospital in tooting! Just to support each other. Of course would love to hear from people who had surgery at this hospital too.

My bmi is over 50, i am not diabetic (yet), dont have diagnosed high blood pressure (yet).. I dont have any serious illness diagnosed (yet).. But i do struggle with physical activity a lot as i keep getting headaches, back and joint pains after just 10 min of walking or so.. I had no period for a year (which my gp says its from the weight). I have not done lots of official weight loss programs (as ww slim world or ect.). I always head the best results with just simple calorie counting and keeping the food diary on my own. But i struggled to keep the lost weight off. So in long term the result is that my weight was growing and growing. I feel really bad about myself, i avoid people (even family and relatives). I reached the point where i think wls is the way to go for me, so got all my strength and went to gp to ask to be reffered for wls.

Now i am really nervious that i will be rejected. I had my first appointment with specialist dietitian, now waiting for the appointment to see consultant surgeon. I cant sleep normally.. I cant relax during the day normally as i am so stressed that they will reject me as not suitable candidate. I am thinking about having bypass or sleeve. The dietitian agreed that sleeve or bypass would be the best choice for me.

Can anyone tell more about the first appointment with surgeon at this hospital. Would be really helpful just to hear from people undergoing the same as me. As i keep reading on the diaries of other people but never seem to come across to anyone with st georges hospital experiences.

Thanks everyone in advance. And i wish everyone good luck! Either if you are like me just starting or post op already starting a new life. Good luck for every single soul in this world struggling with weight.

St George's have a support group the last Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm in the Thomas Edison Unit (I think that's the name, it's the diabetic clinic area at the top of the hospital). I was private but all the bariatrics staff I have met there are great.

hello and welcome llora

I was at St Georges. I spoke to a dietician first who was very supportive, followed later that week by the surgeon. I wanted a gastric balloon but he convinced me to have a bypass and I am so glad he did as two weeks post-op I was no longer diabetic and my blood pressure had returned to normal without medication.

After I saw the surgeon I was approved for surgery one month later and then had my surgery 2 and a bit months after that. Now I know that was very quick and much quicker than normal. I was fortunate that my GP had already arranged funding approval. Plus I had lots of medical conditions including, hypothyroidism, diabetes, high blood pressure.

The other thing with St Georges is that they sometimes arrange for another hospital to complete the surgery to reduce number of cancelled ops.. my surgery was not at St Georges but at St Anthonys but under the umbrella of St Georges.. so another reason why it happened very quickly.

Good luck and welcome to the forum. x
