Well I posted my message but am not sure where the first one went !! So my name is Lyndsey and I have just had a gastric band op done 3 days ago. I wondered if anyone takes a multi-vitamin and if so, which one ?
I'm scared.... I seem to be getting lots of pain in my right shoulder and I can't get comfy in order to sleep. Had max 10 hours sleep in the last 4 days I'm shattered

Hi Lyndsey!

I'm not a gastric bypass patient, but as far as vitamins go I've always taken centrum. I believe they have a men and womens specific version too, although I just take the standard 1-a-day version. They've always got me through, seemingly, I've done some pretty crazily hard dieting previously too, where I'm quite sure I would have been vitamin deficient without them, but you never can be too sure I guess. I can vouch that the Iron in them definitely works though, as it gave me a black stool :O

I'd also recommend taking some Omega 3 capsules :)

Hi Lyndsey....I'm a by-passer and I'm afraid I cant help you with your question..."BUT" I can say welcome and hope you enjoy all that this forum can give you....

Hi Lyndsey, I havent had the op yet but I have read about a lot of people having pain in their shoulder after the surgery and I think its trapped wind.. I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm this.

Take care and good luck with your recovery and weight loss xxx

Hiya Lyndsey, I am pre op for a gastric band, and from what you are saying about the pain, it sounds like trapped wind as Mandy said, try and keep moving as much as you can and this should free this, other experienced banders will be along soon to give you more advice. Well done on your surgery and all the very best with your recovery :) X

Hi Lyndsey and welcome to mini's

I had my band 5 weeks ago today and to be honest I keep forgetting to take my vitamins.

The vitamins I got were like chalk so I was taking my children's vitamins (Bassetts soft & chewy), I said this to the dietician and she said that was fine but I had to take 2 of them for an adult dose.

The pain you are having is wind pain and its awful, Liz and a few of the others told me to keep moving about and it worked, mine did last about a week though so get yourself moving and keep taking sips of diluted orange or water, I also took deflatine which helped move the wind

You're only 3 days post op so dont be doing too much, before you go to bed try a mug of hot chocolate made with milk to help get you over to sleep

Feel free to ask anything on here, everyone is so nice and helpful

Welcome and to re-iterate what the others have said - that pain will be a pocket of gas used in the op wedged up your diaphragm..the only way to get shot of it is to move about! It will go - honestly!!

I am a bypasser so not sure what you banders have to take but I am sure all teh other banders will be able to advise you correctly.

Hi There

Everyone has said what I would have said...But I just wanted to welcome you to Mini's
Loads of support here...Good luck on your journey.

(((hugs)))

Hi and welcome to minis. I used peppermint tea and gripe water and as much moving around as i could to help shift the wind.
good luck and hope you feel more like yourself soon.

I'm a bypasser so don't know what the advice is with regards to vitamins but can't see it would hurt to take them, With regards to the wind it can be very painfull post op (a fair few bypassers suffer it too).

The nurses were dishing out peppermint oil a lot in hospital, that seemed to help a lot of people, other than that moving about and painkillers are about all you can do for a few days, it will pass.

Hi Lyndsey and welcome to minis.:welcome2:

I had my band done 8 weeks ago. As everyone has said the best way to get rid of the pain is to keep moving. Also take mint tea or suck on mints, I found that really helped.

I know what you mean about sleeping I found it very hard. I propped myself up in bed with lots of pillows and slept like that for the first few weeks. take naps during the day if you need it for the first while.

It does get better and quickly, I now feel so much better and seeing the weight come off is the icing on the cake.

Good luck with your weight loss journey.

hi lynsey and welcome to mini's im a bander of 4 years, please dont feel scared as the shoulder pain is only trapped gas, the best remedy to make it go is movement, potter around the house, the more you move the quicker it will go away, also as the others have said try sleeping in an elevated position as it helps.

any questions please feel free to ask

Hi Lyndsey....try Peppermint Cordial in a little water, I found that worked best for me and keep moving around.

As for the sleeping...I slept 'sat upright' on the sofa a few times with loads of cushions propping me up, or if you have a spare Duvet you could fold it into a huge cushion to prop you better in bed. It took almost 2 weeks for me to feel comfortable enough to lie on either side, but all you can do is try, it may come sooner for you.

And don't worry...it really does get better :hug99:

Hi Lyndsey and :welcome2:to minis. I'm a bander of nearly 11 weeks. I did'nt suffer too much with the trapped wind shoulder pain because as soon as I could I was up and about (in hdu). I had heard so much about this pain I was scared more of that than the op itself lol. The wonderful peeps on here told me to move about and drink gripe water. I did both and had no pain at all. Stick around here because there is always someone willing to help and advise you.
