Hi I'm now 7 weeks post open bypass and just can't keep any solids down, can take them in but a few hours later back it comes. Did have post op checkup next week but its been cancelled and now 6 th jan. Tried to call dietician but not come back to me, gp says to just give it time and stay on fluids ?

Hi Linda hope your okay, what type of things are coming back up, I take it fluids staying down okay, how long u been like this, keep trying your team hun, hope ur ok xxx

hi love im about the same place as you , and im struggling with solids too,,,,liquid is fine ,ie-soup,shakes ,but when i eat solids no matter how i chew i still get probs ,luckily im not sick though,,,,think il go back to puree again, then if still a problem ,get on to my hospital,, hope it gets better for you soon , xxxxxxxx

Yes fine with liquid and soup but even puree won't stay in not even bit of wheatbix, so living on yog and soup really. What I don't get is why I cam eat solids fine and it's about 2 hours later that it comes back I would have though it far quicker ?

Must admit I am on puréed food but sneak the odd solid in (thin strip of pork) and chew chew chewed til it's dissolved in my mouth. I have not brought anything up.
Use the juices in your mouth to start breaking down the food. This is what they are there for to start the digestive process.

Hark at me lol maybe if I done this pre op I wouldn't had to be post op lol

Good luck xx

Hi Linda :) Sorry you are having problems ... Don't think you should be leaving this until January, you need to see someone soon as at 7 weeks you need the protein foods to stay down. Ring your team on Monday as it is possible you may need a stretch, but I am not a doctor & this is only my opinion. Don't be alarmed by that, some people just need this bit of additional help. Hope you settle soon, sweet xxx :wave_cry:

yes that seems strange , maybe its a lil tight , i sometimes it happens ,and because its all new to us its scarey , i think you should keep calling your hospital cos its obviously worrying you ,,,,please let me know how you get on xxxxx

You are still healing inside,it can take months to heal fully and your insides settle down.It will happen. All I can advise is be patient and really relax as you eat,no reading or tv.Get good soups and pureed foods in and take those vitamins!Maz x

Thanks everyone I'll get onto them on Monday x

I am nine weekis post op and have exactly the same issue. I should be on solids now and everytime I try something solid, it tastes awesome but then shortly comes back up. I can manage pureed though. I find babybel cheese also great, it literally melts in your mouth. and is protein filled. another thing that goes down a treat are cheesy wotsits. I dont particularly want to eat cheesy wotsits but for now its variety andupping my calories, as without the wotsists I am avereging 250 calories a day. Try some laughing cow on carrs melts crackers (these crackers also literally just melt).
I saw my surgeon on Friday, my two month check up) and he is not inclined towards a stretch at the moment, as often when a stretch needed, fluids dont even stay down. I am also quite an anxious person and have stopped my anti depressants. So my plan, from him, is to go back on my anti depressants for the next month and see if my eating improves. If not he will do an endoscopy in the new year and take it from there. But he is 90% sure its more anxiety than systematic.
I know how frustrated you are though. As I am the same. For four days straight I have stuck to eating porridge only as everything enw doesnt stay down. And when I read about others, at the same stage as me, are eating so well I get so upset. But the worse thing we can do is compare as everyone is different.
I am however attempting cailflower and cheese today - will keep you posted.
Hang in there

xx

Whew - look at you Ryan - 66 lbs down - well done!

actually more, i need to update, heheheh, will do so now :)

Thanks Cathi. Feels good.

So, referred to in earlier post, sadly the cauliflower cheese was no good. 2 x half teaspoons and came straight back up. Feel sick ever since. :-( Will have to let tummy calm and have some water and sadly some more porridge

Can you vary the porridge varieties? Oat so Simple do loads of them.

sticking a porridge full of nutrienst from south africa, that i use. its ok for now
