Not sure what to do - and so fed up and....

Miss DeeDee

Post Opper
tomorrow is my 2nd week post op.

I am still so tired all the time.

I appear to have not lost weight at all this week.

I am sick of drinking water

I tried some drinking yoghurt it was so sweet it make me want to be sick

I have a very limited liquid intake, 125ml per hour - only 3 of these can be thin soup.
From tomorrow i can try very sloppy purees(up to 4 desert spoons per portion) but not even sure what that means.

I thought i would try some mash potato for tea and put some bake bean sauce with it just to make it more sloppy - after a few teaspoons i started to feel a bit sick, so havent had any more, my head feels a bit fuzzy and dizzy and i really dont feel well at all - am also feeling very  i also have an awful fuzzy tongue and no matter how many times i clean it it doesnt go, it feels like i have hairs stuck on the back of my tongue! :wave_cry:

ugh ugh ugh - sorry to be so miserable x

Hi Doughie, Sorry you feel so bad :( I was the same but after 2 weeks of it I called my bariatric nurse. She asked if I was taking Fast Tabs or Soluble Metformin & I was taking both.:( She said to stop both & within 48hours my world changed completely & I was getting my fluid & meals down easily. Call your team if in any doubt. Hope you feel better soon honey xxx :wave_cry:

I take 2 Metformin am and 2 Metformin pm as well as a Liraglutide injection (12mg) per day.

Anyone know if you still take these after the Op? I suppose the doctors will tell me, but I just have all these questions ! Lol.

In fact, is there anyone else here that takes Liraglutide ???

thanks twinkle i take one fast tab and my levothyroxine thats all, i already took the lansaraople before op as i have inherited flux thing, i think im just  xx

I felt the same after 2 weeks. It does get easier. I also had furry Tongue and struggled with fluid intake. Just got to remember to keep trying to maintain fluid intake.

I was told to stop taking my metformin too.

Fast tabs are known to cause nausea post op & so is Metformin in the soluble form. Have a word with your team to see if you can come off the Fast tabs & go on to the Lansoprazole capsules. Chin up, sweet xxx :wave_cry:

Sorry you're feeling so low. best to call your team, and to mention you're tongue as it might be thrush which will get very sore if not treated. Hope you feel much better very soon x

Sorry you're feeling poorly, I am 3 weeks post op and I feel tired too. Sloppy purée means it should be sloppy enough to drip through the prongs of a fork. Try eating more slowly, leaving gaps between each mouthful. Fast tabs make me feel sick too, but within half an hour or so it wears off. Have you tried drinking no added sugar squash instead of plain water? Go and see your gp about the furry tongue, it could well be oral thrush. Or if you are drinking a lot of milk products it could be that. Why are you limited to 125mls per hour? I was on 200mls of soup within days and was told to finish it within 20 mins. The baked bean juice may be a bit sugary, there is a lot of sugar in beans. Try mash with gravy to make it sloppy, you can dilute any yoghurt with milk to make it sloppy.
Good luck :)

Hi Hun, listen to Marie she knows what she is talking about.... but i thought i would tell you a typical day for me food wise so to give you an idea what to have.

Breakfast: 1 munch bunch fromais frais
mid-day: 200ml semi skimmed milk with marvel and options hot chocolate.

Evening: 200ml ss milk with marvel and hot choccie.

i hope this helps a bit, if you need anymore suggestions feel free to ask. ive been on pureed sice friday when i was 2 weeks post op xx

You might have just had your first taster of dumping.
Baked beans sauce is high in sugar and has caught a few people out, me included.
Your tongue will get better it is caused by all the toxins leaving your body. Keep up the brushing and try using mouth wash try a toungue scrapper or even brush your tongue with your tooth brush.
Before you drop any meds please speak to your surgery provider

Thanks everyone.

I am on the 125ml every hour cos thats what i have been told i have to have. but they didnt give any measurements for weeks 3 on-wards other than sloppy puree

i don't drink milk so its a bit hard for me to add it to anything, i will try some scrambled egg tomorrow,

the only advise they gave me is this,

Breakfast - half wheetabix soaked in milk, or fromage frai or porridge (cannot tolerate porridge)
mid morn - smooth yoghurt or pureed fruit
lunch - soup (again ugh) thickened with potato puree

afternoon snack, dinner and supper as above

portion size = 3 - 4 desert spoons

this is not much different to the liquid diet i am on now

its boring to say the least since i have been on soup since 6th november

doesnt dumping include being sick?

i have been scrubbing my tongue and using mouth wash - will see how it goes then decide about going back to drs -

thank you all
xx

Doughie, I have a post op diet sheet which I can email to you if you want. PM me your email add & I will send it to you xxx :)

Doughie, i am sure that is just an example, they really don't expect you to eat the same food every day. I even have chicken madras puréed. casseroles, stews, fish in sauce and mash, lentil curry.etc. as long as it's sloppy it will be fine, always look at the labels on food and try to find low fat, low sugar, ideally under 5g per 100g. That should reduce the chance of dumping. :)

Hope u feel better soon Hun x

I have never been sick when I have dumped

no words of wisdom here as i have not had my surgery yet,
but listen to those who have they do know what they are
talking about,
and i am sure you could have a more opptions for your food
intake even if you are on the slopy stage
hope you feel better soon doughie
you take care. xxxx

Just a querie about the tongue thing.... im two weeks post op and i feel like i have a hair at the back of my throat most of the time.. could this be toxins aswell... omg its a silly question lol... maybe i should get the doc to look down my throat... wondered if anyone else suffered that

The tongue and throat problems should stop when you are eating more solid foods.
Most people have some sort of build up on their tongues this is mainly knocked of when you eat food with a rough consistancy.
After you have surgery you are on a soft diet so food smooths over your tongue and the coating builds up.
The best way to combat the problem as I said before is to either brush your tongue with a soft tooth brush or use a tongue scraper (a clean smooth spoon will work just as well)
