I was recently in hospital for iv antibiotics and a nurse damaged a nerve in my hand trying to get a cannula in.I have funny veins and told him he would have probs but he said he always got his veins.Anyway he tried 3 times and hit a nerve that shot down my right thumb.Sxxt did it hurt! I said I couldnt take anymore and he said he would get a doctor to try.Thing is I am now left with a hand that is painful when using it,in a splint(I went back to a+e)they said could take several months to heal and if not could take epilepsy drug or failing that get a plastic surgeon look at it in the future!I always thought you dont site cannulas in a leading arm or too near a joint.Any nurses among you who could confirm?

I have a trapped nerve in my left hand, I happen to be left handed too lol typical:rolleyes:

When I went in for my bypass I told them that I had the test for a trapped nerve in my left hand, they then left it alone. Probably due to the fact that I told them it hurt in the mornings and while I slept and they didnt want a grumpy fat woman on their case first thing in the morning lol :D

I have to say though, Im only 3 weeks out of hospital and the trapped nerve isnt bothering me half as much as it did before I went in. The anaethetist did say to hang on when thinking of going for the corrective surgery as weight loss can usually cure it  So im holding out till christmas before I make any rash decisions
