OK, so what's the deal with sugar?

Really living now!
Right, here's something I don't understand. Is there a percentage that the sugar content should be under? What about fruit sugars? How do we know if something is sugar or fructose? I know that the carbohydrate says ........ of which sugars ......... but how do I know if I can have it? I don't ever, ever want to dump.

The simple rule is no more than 5g per 100g of sugar. As you get further out, you can test that and learn more about sugar types etc. Different people respond differently to fructose and lactose, both natural sugars, some can tolerate a lot, some can tolerate very little.

The important thing to remember with carbs is that they are converted to sugars in your intestines. With simple carbs, white bread, white pasta, white potatoes, this happens very quickly, and so can lead to dumping 45-60 minutes after eating. So the best thing is to stick to complex carbs which are converted far slower :)
