I have just looked at my diet sheet from the hospital and I am supposed to be on liquids till the END of week 2, then go onto mashed foods,

I am 2 weeks post op today and I have already had mashed food  do you think I should continue or go back to liquids? I havent had any problem with the mush!

im the same i went on mashed if its causing u no problems then i cant see the harm what does everyone else think??
brad xx

My thoughts too, but then again I fancied some crackers but they are weeks 8-10 (thats how I found out I made this mistake!!) but surely you can eat anything because by the time you have chewed it really well its all mush before it goes down lol

that one i cant answer i would see what other people say before u take the plunge and have them... my advice would be stay on mush there must be a reason why we cant jump to soon sorry i cant help u more

I know, I wont be indulging with the crackers  but it worried me that I have jumped a week and gone to the mush when I am supposed to be on the liquids still

Oh sue I am sure it will come off soon, are you on the liquid or mush?

Well I just phoned to speak to the dietician and got told off by the receptionist!! she wanted to know why I needed to speak to the dietician as they were in clinic so I said I have made a mistake do I go back to the liquid or continue with the mush, and I was told to do exactly what the sheet tells me to do and that was that, no offer to get the dietician to call me back or anything
some help she is!!

Well wasnt happy with that response so I called the spire and they said to continue the mush!! but also pointed out I am 2 weeks post op and i am advised mush at the end of week 2, 14th March op day + 7 days = 21st March (1 week) + 7 days 28th March = 2 weeks so I am at the end of 2 weeks.

Oh boy I am confused lol

i know its hard sometimes to know what to do but if the hospital said stay on mush them stay on mush until your ready to move on if you follow the guildlines then u cant go wrong
brad xx

Thanks, thats why I phoned the hospital the NHS one gave me attitude and luckily I was transferred to a private hospital so I had them to call too and they said it should be fine and they actually bothered to listen to my dilema and speak to a nurse to tell me what I needed to do rather than a receptionist telling me off for not following the sheet!! but then I HAVE followed the sheet because I AM at the end of the 2nd week and thats all she had to tell me but she was snotty as hell lol

Well I am having fish in sauce for tea instead of the macaroni cheese, the pasta will have to wait a few more weeks, I am not going to push my luck lol

Gosh how confusing glad u got sorted x

I know tell me about it, I was all confused then I got told off yet if she listened to me she could have told me what a wally I was so she missed out lol

You should complain. No need for jumped up receptionists with no patient care skills. Bariatric surgery includes aftercare - esp when it's something causing serious worry that you may have caused damage. A polite please call back or here's Spire's number would've sufficed. That's the NHS for you!

Most providers are different, I never had to do a liquid stage & at 2 weeks was allowed dry toast! Amazing how they can all be so different, some people had much longer on liquids than 2 weeks.

Just be guided by yr pouch & don't push things. xx

I only realised because I wanted crackers and I couldn't see them on the sheet so I phoned the L&d and the receptionist took my name and number to speak to the dietician and she called me back to say it is in the sheet but I can't have anything dry till week 8 so when I realised my mistake it what I thought was a mistake she was really bossy lol but I am glad I went to the spire for a night cos they are really helpful.

The nurses at the l&d are great too but you need to get past the receptionist (and it's not the nice lady who is normally on the desk)
