Op and onwards?

Hey guys hope you're all well!

Just wanted to ask a few things so I'm better prepared?

First how sore is the actual bypass surgery? I know it will be worth it but I'm worried about the after pain for the first week or so after?

Secondly after the surgery and you're fully recovered, what's the size of meals you can eat like for the rest of your life? Is it just like kid size? Or is it even that big? haha sorry these might be silly ones

Thanks in advance :) xx

hiiii, i had my op on wed 28th dec and was home yest and im feeling fine and pain free, im not taking any medication for the pain since yest.
im eating 3 ice cube sizes of food for my tea 1 with mince 1 with pots and 1 with broc all pureed, hope thats of any help to you.

Really that's great that ur not in pain :) hope everything goes well for you. I've just go my pre op next thur, hope the surgey is soon to follow :) x

I can only tell you about soreness as I'm only 8 weeks in. I didn't feel as though I'd had an op at all, there wasn't any soreness at all. The only thing was a bit of discomfort due to trapped wind and that gets released once you are up and about - which for me was the same day as the op.

Same as everyone else - be ready for wind pain like never before!!

But not really any pain from the op itself - I was on pain relief for 2 days whilst in hospital, then stopped taking it as soon as they sent me home, although they did give me plenty to bring with me. I can honestly say the only 'feeling' I had around the operation area was a feeling that things were a bit taut inside, a slight pulling sensation when I moved about, but no pain.

I had my op at the beginning of september, and I can eat a sideplate sized serving on a good day, about half that on a bad day. That equates to about half to 3/4 of a single-sized ready meal. I can't really begin to describe it, but you don't need more than that but still feel totally satisfied as if you'd had a pig-out, but without the discomfort - a win-win situation in my view!! :D

Hi,

I have a very low pain threshold so was in "agony" for about 2 weeks

discomfort after hen fine now x

Hmm I seem to be repeating myself - not sure how that happened! Sorry!

I came home the day after my surgery and was fine. The wind pain is NOT good, but I kept moving around as much as possible, went to bed and the next morning it had gone (must have been an interesting night for my partner!). I've not taken a single painkiller since I've been home and don't actually feel like I've had anything done apart from tiredness!

H xx

i have a very low pain threshold... so i was worried the same as you... but your pumped up with so many pain killers when you come out of surgery i was pain free... and i was given pain killers to come home with and didnt take one x You do get wind for the first couple of days which can be a bit uncomfortable, but as long as you move about and keep active ie do the walking they want you to do after your op... that will go xx
