Op booked gastric band

Don't be. It doesn't happen to everyone.

There are many successful long-term banders, and there is no reason why you can't be one too.

I think many (not all of course) failed banders misused it and didn't follow the rules.

I've had no problems at all with my band. I'm only 4 months in, but I don't regret it at all. My 3rd fill is on Monday.

Good luck, I am sure you will be just fine x

Good luck, not long to go now!

There are a lot of horror stories, but there are also success stories. It's natural to feel apprehensive - before I had my band fitted I couldn't shake the suspicion that I'd be one of the people for whom the band didn't work.
Like banderbird, I've no regrets. I'm just over 5 months in and I've lost just over 5 stone. This is the lightest I've been since I was in my teens, and while it hasn't been easy it's not been nearly as difficult as I'd thought it would be.

Hi Jelly Bean, you've made the right decision, I was banded one week ago today, like you I was very nervous and excited at the same time.

I have two friends who have been banded, one stuck to the diet, chewed everything 20x20 and has lost 8 stone and she looks fab, the other friend never stuck to the diet, ate everything she shouldn't of and her band slipped, now she is waiting to have it removed. Follow the plan and it will be successful for you too. X

Hi Jelly Bean, I'm new here and yours was the first post I saw :) I too am booked in to receive a band from Favretti but on the 25th January. Eeeeeeekk.

I totally understand your fluctuations between excitement and nerves, in fact occasionally I am downright petrified!

Still it's a new start to an exciting new year and life for us :) x

Which provider are you having your surgeries with? The Prof although he didn't do mine, I have met him and he is lovely!

I am a bander 17 months post op and had my band fitted with healthier Weight.

It isn't easy. it can be a battle as you work to find restriction. It's not a quick option either so you need to get into a mindset that an average loss of 1-2lb is where the band will lead you. But its a great weight loss tool - and if you work with it, stick with the guidelines then it will bring you to where you want to be. I'm almost 11 stone down since having mine :)

In saying that, while I'm still working to find restriction with my band, it has changed my life. You will read a mixture of good and bad about EVERY surgery. you just need to make sure you're armed with all the info to make an informed decision that is right for you.

And if you have concerns about certain things, speak to your providers to help put your mind at rest :)

Wise and inspirational words top_kat! Congratulations on your fantastic weight loss, people like you make me want to work hard for it :)

Thanks everyone for all your words it's really helping me. Wow top cat that's an amazing weight loss. I start my pre op diet next Monday and actually I really can't wait for that. It's the beginning of the journey.

What a shame we will miss each other by one day. Oh and my provider is healthier weight.

Ah we share the same providers :) there's a fair few people about to undergo band surgery with HW this month :)

Won't be long now and you'll be on the way :) shout if you'd like to chat, I know you cannot message me until 50 posts, but you'll get there soon too lol

Like others have said its a great aid and a life changer is you follow the rules! Although everybody is different. And things can happen regardless.

My own personal experience - Having a few issues at the moment with my band - it was a godsend for the first 18 months and it was only after the last fill did it start being a problem for me (my fault) - I was a borderline case anyway being over 50 BMI and in hindsight should have gone for the full bypass instead but such is life and funding the operating myself I could not afford the bypass.

Only advice I can give you is that make sure you have a lot of support and people on your side (my partner wasn't and emotionally with a rocky relationship has not helped my eating choices with the band). My band tends to block on the healthy food such as chicken and fish there is no problem eating cake/biscuits/icecream/chocolate so I am guilty of being cowardly and going for the wrong foods to comfort eat so learn to chew everything and eat very slowly.

Its no doubt a big lifestyle decision and there is never a moment I am not aware of the band as I can feel it in place.

I am going to get a fill in Feb to see if it helps with the reflux. Fingers crossed. Good luck with everything.

Another day nearer and thanks top cat, I knew you were with the same provider so that's why I posted it. Hope to speak to you soon.

Hi everyone.

I am 11 days post op now. Really pleased. Have had terrible problems sleeping and ended up getting sleeping tablets from doctor or I would have eaten that was always my problem. Hunger was keeping me awake. Lost 1 and half stone in first 5 days but nothing since. I drink pints maybe six pints of robin sons super free juice at night do you think this is my problem. At first I could not drink like that but now no restriction at all. I have had absolutely no pain since the operation sometimes I wonder have I really got a band, lol but I did have restriction at first and it felt fantastic so a sign of things to come. Could I go running now as feel fine?

im pre op still and not for banding but from other threads i have read that seems a lot to be drinking so soon post op though i might be wrong maybe call your provider or someone to check on it to be safe

fantastic weight loss in 11 days, no wonder it has slowed down now, you will find now you will lose between 1-2 lbs a week. Mine has slowed down too.
