hi all
i am 3 weeks post surgery tomorrow and i was wandering if its normal to still be in bad pain?
The pain is left of my cut and it started last friday, Dont wanna be a hypocondriact but am a little concerned as still in pain.
Thanks in advance
Not yet come as far as you, but would think that bad pain at 3 weeks is not normal, maybe some discomfort. Is the wound red at all? Maybe either see your GP or call hospital for some advice - best to be safe. Not being a hypochondriac - just being sensible.
We all handle pain differently so its hard to say whether its "normal" to still be in pain after 3 weeks. Im just coming up to 3 weeks and still get the odd twinge, but I'm pain free 99% of the time. I had lap though - not open and that will make a difference.
If you are worried hun you should contact your bariatric team. How does the wound itself look? Could it be an infection causing the pain?
hi all
Te wound itself is perfect healed nicely only tiny scab at bottom.
The pain is to left of cut but pain feels more inside than out although tender to touch.
Thanks
How do you feel apart from the pain? Do you have a temperature? If so that would be a sign of infection.
I think the fact that you had an open procedure means the recovery time is going to be longer, but you should be seeing gradual improvements as time goes on, if you think your healing or the pain has either got worse or not improved for a few days it's always worth getting it checked out.
Are you resting properly? Keep taking the pain killers too.
thanks guys just phones st richards and she said oh its fine dont worry so will see how i am friday and will go to my gp in no better.
Will take some pain killers now but get worried i shouldnt be taking them 3 weeks on.
If i need them i shall take them
Im just 4 weeks out open bypass. I still have twinges and they are 'inside' pains rather than surface. My surgeon did say that although the wound may look like it healed all the tummy and insides have had a shakeup and will be a tad swollen and tender. He also said that it might feel sore in certain spots a couple of weeks after surgery due to the retractors they use during the op, this pain is the one that seems to take the longest to disappear.
just take it easy and if you do get worried ring your ward or the aftercare you have
Hi Julie - sorry to hear you still have pain. Everyone is different and for me my pain lasted for about 9 - 10wks post op and my GP felt it was internal bruising especially of my ribs as it was painful to breathe, move, sleep or do anything really.
Go and see your GP and get yourself checked over to make sure that it is nothing serious. Sending hugs and fairy dust to make you feel better xx
Hi Sorry to hear you are in pain i had a keyhole bypass so that tends to make the pain less i was having the odd twinges 2 weeks ago and the doc said the internal scars will still be raw and healing and that can be where pain originates from hope you feel better soon x
