Oranges are not the only fruit...

...But they do taste lovely this year.

I've never been a great orange eater - would have the occasional satsuma this time of year, maybe one around Christmas to carry on with the tradition - but oranges were, well just too much work. Hard to peel, not guaranteed not to be dried up segments with no juice in them or just full of pips.

Anyway, this year, I started getting into satsumas big time (I think a message here asked how people found them post op and that got me to try them again). Love the simple easy peelers and all their juicy goodness...

This has now progressed onto oranges - I still don't like peeling them (always makes the area just under my thumb nail sting), but the flavour is just wonderful, the citrus smell around as I peel and then eat them is gorgeous and I'm sure they are helping keep things regular too.

I'm aware not to eat too may of them (natural sugar carbs etc etc), but the sharpness and sweetness of them seems so much richer post op for me.

Anyone else found a new love of an old acquaintance?

unfotunately i'm the opposite i used to love fruit melon especially and oranges satsumas and gala apples but now they react on my tummy almost as soon as i've eaten them, i don't dump as DS'rs don't but get a real tummy pain and for some reason fresh pineapple make my mouth tingle inside and the back of my throat almost closes up :( so i wish i could eat them just can't x glad you're enjoying them though :)

Think its time we had a photo of you Muttley so we can see who we are chatting to. I still enjoy fruit and veg chocolate does not taste the same thank goodness I do not fancy it but still enjoy the odd biscuit. xx

Oranges tend to give me an very acid stomach, even though I take my meds to protect it from the balloon. But I will have some watered down orange juice, just to make a change from water or squash.

Not had any choc, biscuits, cakes or ice cream in the last month. Have felt too sick to be interested. But I am sure the time will come when I may want some!! Not yet though, I hope! xx

Sadly still can't do oranges or satsumas yet. Can manage a bit of Orange juice. I tend to blitz my fruit up ino a smooth. Hopefully after my stretch on Monday it might get better. Used to travel the world buying fruit. Many a trip to Brazil, Spain & the like for oranges. Used to love the Sicilian blood orange & it's juice was define especially with champagne all of which are a distant memory. Only old acquaintance post op is porridge!!! Sad but true.

Smoothie even! Urrrrgh iPad predictive text.

Hi

I am another one into satsumas big time, especially the big Jaffa easy peel ones.

Can't be bothered with oranges these days for the same reason as the OP mentioned.

Mind you talking of Oranges, what ever happened to those big thick skinned easy peal, no seed Jaffa Oranges you used to be able to get in the 70's and 80's, they are all thin skinned hard to peel thing nowadays, even the Jaffa ones.

I hav eto admit I have to really fancy an orange, its not a fruit I would pick, i have never really bothered with apples since my op either the skin just wouldnt go down at all only ever liked yellow golden delicious as it was, I love bananas, grapes, plums, satsumas, strawberries, pears, peaches and necatrines. I must say before my op peaches and nectarines I never ate not keen on kiwi fruit n raspberries, dont care for blackberries and cannot abide gooseberries but it wouldn't do for us all to be the same would it? xx

Mmmmm I love Satsuma, just out to get some.
But, I do tend to eat a lot of bananas, grapes, plums and peaches.
Not worried about sugar content as we Sleevers do not have the capacity to dump, as our intestines are all intact and the in the same place.
Enjoy your food choices, don't fear them...just fear their calorific value !!!!

Love the replies everyone.

I remember one of my first posts here was about coffee and if people's taste buds had changed about that post sleeve (wls in general) and again such a mix of reactions to it afterwards.

Also love how the conversation moves on from oranges to biscuits and chocolate. Mmmm, may combine some of them and have a chocolate orange...

Chrisa, did you not see my before and 13 weeks pics I posted in my 13 weeks thread a few weeks ago?

Bellydancer, I'd love to blame my 'typos' on an iPad predictive text thing, but unfortunately I'm just crap and it's all my own doing (or undoing). But the iPad speak does make for interesting reading.

Unfortunately the Israeli Jaffa industry was very naughty & fraught with fraud & scandal & it dessimated the Jaffa orange industry in the late 80s. Most of the supply was picked up by Spain & Morocco using different varities than the good old jaffa. The remaining juicing supply was transferred to Florida.
There is a bit of a glimmer of a resurrection but the political situation in the Middle East makes it very difficult.

I have found myself Loving with a capital L cashew nuts.....yes I know they are full of calories, but I just LOVE them! I can eat them easily they cause me no bother worst luck. I usually have some as my snack. On the fruits I seem to have found my love of grapes rekindled :candledinner: They are also good for snacks..........talking about snacks, that all I seem to eat.........

I wasnt a great fruit lover before the bypass, but now I must admit I have a passion for oranges, along with strawberries blueberries and most other soft fruits. I don't seem to dump on fruit at all, so it is tempting to eat too much, so limit myself daily as really trying to keep my carbs low at the moment.... Am going to give the satsumas a whirl now they are on the shelves again......
