When we go out my o/h orders a mixed grill, and a side salad I have the side salad and 1/4 of the chicken breast and a bit of the gammon off his mixed grill (cheap date lol)

I usually order starters as a main. I tend to stick to protein based dishes. Although I did have a lovely hot mezze starter in our local Turkish restaurant, which was lovely.

Like paula I tend to go for protein normal a small chicken shish and rice or a fish dish or even a very small plain steak with veg like soup but at home not in a restaurant doesn't feel right having a soup , I need to "eat" something!

Yea I choose high protein , the menu said under 500 calories and it was just giant king prawns in garlic and chilli was beautiful and so high in protein , I was going to order kids pasta but I haven't ate pasta yet so never bothered , pleased work my prawns though it was so tasty x

The only places I order a kids meal from is places like Jamie's Italian, other wise they are generally rubbish. I don't even order my own kids one.
I always get a starter, some places do options for salads and things as a smaller portion. If I do have a main it's normally salmon fillet or fish cakes.
Mostly my other half and I choose a starter and a main we both like and share the two.
I find that if I order a main I always overeat unintentionally and then feel like I just want to lay down and sleep! But if you just get a starter that can be a bit boring as you don't get any veg etc, that's why I always try to push everyone else into getting things I can have a little sample of as well.

I find it helps to go out with a friend and then have a healthy started and pick a few things from your friend's plate for variety. Salads are always good and, if you can tolerate it, pasta. Here in China I tend to be happy with anything that isn't deep fried.

I love curry and was quite worried how I wood cope as I find I have gone off meat quite a bit and chicken gets stuck. Then I discovered paneer, Indian cottage cheese that they cut in chunks and serve either cooked in a tandoori or with various sauces ( yet to investigate protein/fat content). So I order off menu (most restaurants really obliging) starter size portion and Nick a bit of rice. With Chinese I stick to salt and chilli prawns , I had tapas too he other day which was great as picky and I could avoid what I needed to. Really really aware of high fat content though, so if going out tend to cut down the rest of the day
