OT. HPV Vaccine

I was reading somewhere

That even though im not at school anymore and above the age limit, I can pay to have the HPV vaccine at somewhere like Boots.
Im not old enough to go for smear tests (25 i think is the age) so I would like to have the vaccine, and I dont mind paying for something that will protect me.

Has anyone else heard of this or is planning to get this done?

No hun - I didnt know you could pay! If there is a history of cervical cancer in your family you can request a smear test earlier that 25. I will have to wait another year, but I did read that it has, or will be going up again to 29?

The problem with it is ideally it needs to be given before you become sexually active.

I dont think there is a history of anything in my family, but my mum had abnormal cells a few years ago, thankfully it was nothing but it deffo makes you think.
Im going to inquire tomorrow in Boots to see what can be done.

I have been asking for this injection for my daughter whom is 14, the doctors have refused to do it and said it was down to the schools, my daughter has brought the forms home today but im a bit aprehensive about it as one girl died a few weeks ago within a hour or so of having it, they have said she had underlying problems but still a worry.

The girl that died died from a tumour in her chest, not related to the vaccine. It was just a coincedence.
