I have actually had this for at least 5 years, there's not a lot they will do - either steroid injection or anti inflammatory's, I have noticed though it is getting worse too now the padding is lessening - specially in the bath

the things we are gonna have to put up now !!

I have got one of those cushions with a carved circle in the back but it doesnt really work either i just wedge a cushion right at my lower back to try to sit forward a bit it works ok most of the time once you get it in the right place.

OMG- I had this a few weeks ago... I was at work and was fine, then the next minute I had incredible pain so much that I had to go home
I took some anti imflamitories which helped but was still 'oo'ing' and 'aar'ing' all night and the next fee days. It still hurts a bit now but no where near as bad. It felt as if I'd fallen down stairs on my arse- but I didn't! Strange. Xx

I have heard of post oppers actually having theirs removed because the pain from sitting is so bad, but that would be an extreme case. I can't say it gets better either as I'm three years out and can't sit for more than a few minutes without wriggling my arse around to relieve the pressure on mine. They say no pain no gain, in our case it no gain lots of pain LOL

One of those things some of us wls peeps have Im afraid.Mine comes and goes, keep moving and take paracetemol.Bypassers beware anti inflams.Dont use cushions with cut outs it makes you liable to piles!

This is the wierdest thing! My coccyx feels absolutely massive, if I lean back on something I accidentally catch it and it's so uncomfortable to sit. What I don't understand is why? I don't hear people who have always been skinny going round screaming 'Ouch ,me coccyx!' as is now frequently heard in our house?

I have pain too. It almost makes the top of my bottom numb. I en up sitting on the side of my bottom when I'm on the sofa. Actually the sofa at home is the only place it hurts, it's fine in a dining chair or the arm chairs at work. Just our sofa. Wouldn't mind but it's only a couple of years old lol. Maybe I'll borrow a pressure cushion from work and see if it makes any difference.

Well when I joined this site I never imagined reading about a achy coccyx , wonder why. Hope you feel better soon and I would defo go to the docs.

Oh what alot I have to look forward to hahah

About the last couple of months I've noticed when I'm sitting for a bit,my bottom goes numb and it's painful.
Is this coccy pain?
Does this mean all slimmer people can suffer with this sort of pain? As I've never heard of it before..

Mine is very prominent and sore. When I had Charlie at 18 months post op it really aggravated it and I was in agony for days!

Glad you have mentioned the front, it does feel very different and bony lol x

I have had this problem for several years it gets better and worse, past few months its been quite bad. TBH I never thought about going to doctors for it and assumed it was because I am fat, I never thought of it becoming worse if I loose weight (assuming I ever get accepted for WLS)... but I'm sure it will be a small cost to pay.
Sorry to hear yours is bad :( it really sucks

Oh Jo, that sounds painful, honey :wave_cry: I must admit sitting in the bath or on un-cushioned chairs is now very uncomfortable but just took it at face value ... less cushioning, more bone to be in direct contact with the hard surfaces. We went to a playarea last week & I could not sit still at all ... think some of the mum's thought I must have some sort of itch, lol   xxx

Thanks for ALL the replies..thought I'd be the only one....think what makes mine worse is I once had an abscess in the same area lanced and when they packed it to heal its always been less full anyway, so now the fats gone off my butt it just emphasises it. Interesting how so many of us have this though...! Glad I posted now xxx

whilst giving birth 10 years ago now (my god im sooo old!!!) i actually caused 'whiplash' to my coccyx because his head came out too fast....it was 8 months before the pain went away, i could faint the pain was the bad, sitting or standing.....ooowwwwww *sympathy*

Aswell as there being less padding around that area following weightloss, the fat distribution is different to someone who has always been an average size. Just like our tummys and bangers drop with weight loss, so do our bottoms! Mine is practically none existent, it's slid down behind my knees somewhere.
