Packed Lunches

Hi All

I am going on some training to an army barracks and they have told me to take a packed lunch. They have said there are no toasters and no microwaves....I will take a salad one day, but has anyone got any ideas on what else I can have?
I will be doing some physically draining activities and lots of jogging (all in the name of my work! oh joy!) and running about so will need high energy. I am 11 weeks post op...any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you! xx

Hi Salski

What about some pasta and sweetcorn with sweet chilli sauce, its delicious, make a big tub and keep it in the fridge it will last a few days, my children love it so do I!!

You can buy small pitta pockets (I know their in tesco's) fill them with ham/chicken and salad and a chilli mayo

Some mixed fruit in a tub with youghurt or without

Egg & onion sandwiches

Tuna & onion sandwiches

Just a few things I would like in a pcked lunch

pesonally i couldnt eat much of those kate pasta and kind of bread are a no no for me but im a bander, can bypassers eat pasta ?

how about some hot soup in a flask ?

Not sure what bypassers can have Liz, just listed what I give my children for packed lunches, I probably should read up on what bypassers can and cant eat, I never thought of a flask of soup, thats a good idea

if i take a packed lunch any where i usually just take soup in a flask, or a nice tuna salad, some thing along those lines xxx

If you have a fridge then I would suggest cottage cheese, chicken salad, prawn salad. You can add a few cracker breads/ryvitas, a drinking yogurt, a piece of fruit. If you are okay with dried fruits and nuts, you can have that as well. Mini babybels, pepperami sticks, sliced sanwhich meat with light herb philly cream cheese in the middle. Hummus with cracker bread or raw veggies like carrots, celery, cucumber. A hard boiled egg. You really have lots of options. Oh, what about those packets of flavoured tuna? Those don't even need to be cold. I am sure you will find something nice and easy.

Let us know how you get on,
Nic:D

I'd be on a pasta salad, if you are doing jogging you will need the carbs. Or a rice salad/bulghar wheat/ebly/cous cous etc salad. Mix it with protein to keep you going but raise the split up to 50-50 instead of heavy protein.

Thanks all! I sahll try some of the suggestions. I have been eating salads most days at work but I am getting pretty peeved with all the things Ive been on since op such as tinned fish and now salad....I wandered around tescos and really couldnt think of what to have!
I am really interested in the cous cous idea...is it ok to have cous cous?
pasta and bread are still no-no's and last week I tried a baby pitta and again it was a no no. But thanks for all your help! Wish me luck for the training! haha THANK YOU!

roasted salmon flakes with salad (boring but .....)
chicken breast pieces with salad
salad with salad
fruit of course
Crispbreads with cottage cheese or other toppings

Try smaller grains then like ebly and bulghar wheat. Couscous is tiny pasta grains so it's worth trying if pasta is a struggle.

tuna in a tin, rice cakes, crisp cakes, home made potato salad, take own fruit and veggies.....ham slices.................spreads for rice cakes and crisp cakes, if you have access to water either kettled or wot u can boil...........u can take super noodles very low fat ones...........and add chicken...makes a nice and filling for a dinner or just add some other veggies to noodles perhaps

All the best - MeJulie x x

Cous cous is lovely and if you dont like it plain you can mix it with salad or use a flavoured soup like chicken to soak it in instead of using water and it gives it a lovely flavour then mix some fresh chives and you have a good base for adding to as a salad.
Good luck with your training
