Once again, a big thank you for all your friendly good luck wishes! They're very much appreciated! :grouphugg:
I'd be interested to hear how people felt when they came round from surgery? I have no idea if I'll be in lots of pain?
Those of you who've had a VGS...did you all have a drain? I'd really appreciate your feedback.

Hi it was painful when i woke up, they pumped me full of painkillers, was off them the next day, and i had a drain in which was more painful than my key holes, but doing really well know and would do it again. good luck xx

Was sore for a while but it's amazing how quick you forget, don't regret a thing & I'm only 3 week post op xx

No real pain more discomfort,Hated sleeping on my back and had lots of backache in first week, think that was the op gas though.

as soon as i woke up after the op, i felt like a herd of rhinos had trampled across my upper chest! It did hurt, but with 8 hours it was fine. The next morning i was feeling dandy, just a mild dull ache on my left scar.

there were 3 of us who had the sleeve on the same day, and the other 2 girls had lots of painkillers. I was lucky and just had one lot straight after in ICU. We all respond differently is what im trying to say :)

I had a drain but only for about 6 hours - to be honest i was in and out of sleep so i didnt notice it.

I wish you all the best for your op - youll be fine!

I asked the surgeon if he had dropped me coz my chest felt like I had been hit by a double decker bus lol.It gets better and you soon forget about it

Good luck

Straight after I came around it felt like someone had driven thousands of pins into the soles of my feet which was really weird. After that it was severe discomfort in my chest and my whole tummy was very tender.

I am about a week and a half post-d/s op now and have inflamed some of my stomach pain thanks to a chest infection that has made coughing a pretty horrible experience.

I still find lying on my side a little uncomfortable but lying on my back has caused my more coughing so it was the lesser of two evils for me.

If you're in pain when you come round after surgery, are they quick to give you pain relief? I'm worried about being left to suffer.
Also do you come round in the recovery room or in the ward? Do they shift you into a bed or do you have to get up and do it yourself?

I've only ever had my tonsils out and am still mortified when I remember chatting up the male nurse when I was coming round and still groggy.

When the brought me around I was still on the operating table. For my surgery I had to walk into the theatre and get on the table.

Think I was shifted onto a gurney after that and moved through to the HDU. Fortunately I was the only one in there overnight so I got one to one care from the nurse.

Really don't remember too much of it but sure there is pain but plenty of pain relief and you really will just drift in and out of consciousness that first few hours.

It rather depends what time of day your surgery is. I was on the table for over 6 hours and didn't come out until well gone midnight so there hadn't been any other ops for a while prior to mine.

Yorkiegal fear ye not. When i had my surgery i walked myself down to theatre, walked in and hopped on the bed and that was it till they woke me up in recovery. I smiled tried to take the face mask off and promptly went back to sleep, when i next opened my eyes i was on a ward. I drifted in and out for most the night with a PCA hooked up to morphine, however i realised that i didn't like the spaced out feeling and stopped pumping it into me. No pain really, although the wind was not nice, was up out of bed next morning and taken to a bathroom to shower myself.... As i say, wind pain is the only real discomfort, however you have to expect some kind of discomfort after surgery...

Like childbirth it's soon forgotten :) xx
