I'm 1 week post op gastric band and struggling to sleep. The wind is easing but I get this horrendous taste in my mouth and I can smell how bad it is. My tongue was coated in green this morning. Trying to brush it off made myself retch. So basically 2 questions? 1 have I moved the band retching? 2 what can I do about the sewer breath?

Hi there I'm pre-op so can't advise... But for your breath try drinking peppermint tea, I am on low carb = smelly breath and I find it helps with that and also heard it helps with wind. Good luck on your journey

Hi and welcome :)

It is highly unlikely that you've moved the band by wretching just from brushing your teeth - it would take considerably more than that to shift it. Although you're tender post op and its natural to worry about doing so.

Secondly, the mouth taste. Because (Im assuming still on liquids only post op?) as such, the body can go into a process called Ketosis and this leads in effect to the taste in your mouth and bad breath.

All you can do for the moment is to brush if you can, several times a day, use a mouthwash to help rinse out the mouth. Some providers allow you to chew chewing gum (but do NOT swallow) and this can also help.

When you get onto the stages of being on mash and then normal food, this should ease completely as your body will come out of the ketosis naturally as a result of the food you will be eating.

If you have any concerns with your band, always contact your provider - its what they are there for :)

Are you struggling to sleep because of pain and discomfort? If so, are you taking any regular pain relief, even like liquid or soluble paracetemol can help.

:)

I'm struggling to sleep because this taste in my mouth is horrid. When I lay down it gets worse. Just bought v shaped pillow to try n keep me upright. Feel like a test tube full of sewer gas lol. Burping etc so it's not stuck.

I had the same taste pre-op, on the milk diet, and couldn't find a way to kill it. It disappeared once I was on mushies.

Hiya - I had exactly the same issue - furry green tongue and horrendous taste in mouth. I had to keep checking to make sure some small animal had not crawled in mouth and died!! :)

I bought a proper tongue scraper and a large bottle of Cordsyl mouth wash - not cheap, but cleared up both problems in 3 days. Also make sure you keep well hydrated and being de-hydrated can pro-long the issue.

Hope it clears up soon

I've been using anti-bacterial Listerine, it's really helped.

The furry tongue was horrible. Hope it all gets better soon welshwonder x

I hope your furry tongue gets better soon! I have a seriously dry mouth in the mornings but brushing my teeth seems to sort it out! x
