pcos with bypass and pregnancy...

ok so im due to be having a bypass anytime between now and september....

im not worried at all because i know im huge at (stones) 21.1 (before pre op diet) ... the thing i do worry a lot about is becoming pregnant.. ive never been able to get pregnant becase i have pcos (poly cycstic syndrome) i have it really bad and the fertility clinic say there are no other problems stopping me from getting pregnant other than this and my weight.

being fat worsens the pcos so at the moment im going in 1 big circle and that was my main reason for wanting a bypass.

i was just wondering if anyone has pcos and had the bypass and then fell pregas on thier own? i know another step is clomid (i think thats spelt wrong) but id really like to see if anyone has fell after loosing the weight.

thanks guys

Hiya huun - Im 9 weeks post bypass and the only reason I had surgery was due to PCOS and me wanting to have children. I am hoping to start after 1 year post op. Hope that helps?

Hi There

I too have PCOS and I caught my first daughter on Clomid and I had ovarian drilling before catching my other 3.

I have been very very luck because my weight has never effected my ability to concieve.

As you lose weight you will notice that your menstual cycle will improve greatley (i presume that you have absence of periods if your PCOS is very severe) and this combined with weight loss will improve your chances of natural conception .

And should this not happen then im sure Clomid would be the next alternative.

Hope this helps a little

The thing is no one will be able to give you any certanties about your fertility, but you are putting in all the right actions in order to give your self the best possible chance .

Hi Kristy,
I am also in the same boat as you are. I have PCOS and after all the blood works, SA and HSG, the only problem found was my weight. Fertility clinic told me to loose weight otherwise they won't even start any treatment. I have very peculiar type of cycle, where when i start bleeding i don't stop for 3 months with blood clots and when i don't, i don't for 3/4 months. I am facing this problem since i started bleeding for the first time.
I know clomid helped a lot of people. that is a site called AskBaby.com - Pregnancy Guide, Baby Advice, Baby Clothing, Baby Names, Maternity . you will find a lot of info there. I recently diagnosed with diabetes and doc gave me metformin. she told me it will help my PCOS too. I've been referred for the wls and have my 1st appointment on the 21st july. I have also gathered a lot of info about getting preggo after wls which i will share with you if you want. Doc's also prefer that as its less risky to get preggo with a fit and healthy body.

i too have pcos. I have had a gastric band since may 2009. I have been trying to concive for 2 years. I went to see a fertility specialist last week who has told me he will not give me treatment of any kind until i have a BMi of 30 or below ( it is currently 37) He did however, tell me how easy it is to lose the 4 stones that i need to lose !!!!!

o cool. i know i have to wait at least a year - which is fine with me because my body will have a while to recover. my fertility clinic was going to let me try clomid but then i got my referal for wls so i decided to wait untill i have lost some weight. as it can only do some good. my period used to be the same ... every 3/4 months and then on for probs 4 weeks! but i have probs only had 1 period this year and its ALWAYS clotty... which scares me a little. i have never tryed metformin but id rather try clomid first as i have heard losts more success storys with this drug, although alot of them are multipul births. which i dont even mind... i just want to be a mum. thanks for all the replys as its always useful hearing other ppls storys. u never know what youl learn about yourself through other ppl. x

I don't have PCOS, but am post op and had fertility problems pre op. Hubbs and I tried for over a year and didn't get anywhere. He was checked, and I already had an 8 year old (I was slimmer but not slim when i had him).

After the op and losing most of my weight (BMI was 25.4 around conception) I fell very quickly, we weren't actively trying but had stopped not trying if that makes sense, and after 2 cycles I'm pregnant.

I do think now I should have waited longer, as I have really struggled to stop losing weight since.

aww im glad it worked for someone that has given me a little hope. my pcos is very bad but hopefully will get better and result in me getting pregas. me n hubby have been trying for 3 years and nothing... i really hope 1 day i will become a mummy. its all ive ever wanted. xx

Hi, I have PCOS and the infertility that some times goes with it. A big reason for me having the bypass was to make healthy and fit so I could be a mummy. My hubby & I have been married for almost 12 years and have tried off and on with no success. When my consultant told me that I could expect a 60% improvement in fertility after wls I was so excited. I just saw my consultant last month and he gave me the green light to start trying to conceive which makes me so happy! I am really looking forward to my opportunity for a baby. We plan to wait a bit longer because I just want my weight loss to slow down/stop before I get pregnant. I will be 36 soon and silly thing that I am would welcome a treatment that would give me a multiple birth, lol so that I don't end up with an only child! But it will be a cherished and spoiled only child that is for sure!

Best of luck to you and may your baby dreams come true!

I also have pcos quite bad and my weight has steadily increased since my early 20's. I'm now 35 and been married 10 years trying to get pregnant for most of that time. Metformin didnt work for me and my consultant wont consider IVF until I have a healthy BMI and I dont blame him as I cant be a good Mum while I'm so fat (21st) and unhealthy I want to be the best Mum possible if I'm lucky enought to get pregnant.

I'm now waiting for my first appointment on my path to band/bypass (not decided which yet) I have PCT approval for funding. I feel so impatient to get things moving not only for my health but also so I'm in with a fighting chance of having a baby before I'm too old. If a baby is not to be then I will enjoy life as a new slimmer healthier me and not live half a life as I feel I'm doing now because of my weight xx
