Seriously, if you're delicate move away from the thread now...

Hi, i wouldn't normally do a poop question as i've seen plenty of people complain of constipation. However this is not my problem, my bowels performed beautifully Saturday night and have been constant ever since. I'm going at least twice a day, i get little or no warning and a couple of times its started without me which was embarassing but luckily i was in the comfort of my own home... As i'm on liquids only there isn't much consistency and is stinking to high heaven! Yeah okay i know it's **** but i never left a smell pre op when i went.

Anyway i want to know is this normal? Should i be worried or thinking of going to the doctors for something to stop it a bit?

All advice greatfully excepted :) xx

Julie, I remember posting something similar when I was newly post op. I couldnt understand why I was going every 5 minutes whilst others were posting that they couldnt go at all. I have been lucky and never been constipated at all.

As for the smell - welcome to the world of a bypasser lol. Its the malabsorption, you are basically passing food that hasnt been absorbed properly and it stinks lol.

The consistency should improve once the consistency of your food improves. Its important that you carry on drinking and "eating", as it can be tempting to cut back so you dont go as frequently.

If you are not experiencing any pain, then Id be inclined to let it run its course. If you do seek medical advice your GP may just prescribe immodium or similar without thinking of the bypass. Speak to Ana or Dr hartland for advice.

Although immodium is safe for bypassers, being so newly post op your body is probably just disposing of stuff it needs to dispose of.

Thanks Sam. I'll give it a while see how it goes or not as the case may be. I'm still drinking plenty and having my soups so i shant worry unnecessarily. My only concern is its going to make me think long and hard before going out walking (which i had started - only short ones mind), i'm scared to leave the loo xx

It will settle - it'll be the combination of a big op, fluids and little solids going in - together with the maladsorption!!

Citrus Magic is supposed to be good for the smell though I either open the window, make 'em suffer or use Oust!!

Hope it settles soon

Angela xx

Forgot to say earlier Julie, my bowel issues seemed to settle somewhere between 2 and 3 weeks post op, so hopefully you wont have to suffer for too much longer x

julie.......

I hope things get themselves sorted for you soon ...........

aww Julie, hope your body sorts itself out quickly for you, save you an embarrassment, hopefully it wont be for long xxx

It could be a reaction to the op and your body is getting rid of all the chemicals and fluids pumped into your body. If it doesn't right itself contact the team at walsall.

Hope you stop "running" soon Julie or you will be at the cash and carry for all their air freshners hee hee. The smell as Sam says is all part of the new us and i'm telling you i need to find a handbag size airfreshner to carry with me its a nightmare! I hope you feel better soon and can move at least a yard away from the toilet xx

Sorry Julie, but I have been 'loose' ever since the op, 7 months ago. I used to be constipated and now I don't know what's worse. I do find that if I have anything remotely sweet then my stomach gurgles extremely loudly and I am very smelly farty and need to be near a loo. Still didn't stop me going for the cake though!, grrrrrrrrrr (idiot that I am). I also find it worse after bread, in fact most high carbohydrate foods make me like that. I now take Imodium if it gets too bad.

Well i rang Ana the bariatric nurse at Walsall Manor and she thinks it may be a lactose intolerance. Told me to lay off milk/fortimel today and see if it improves then i'm to ring the dietician for advice and probably a new prescription...

Unfortunately for me i didn't ring till after i'd had my first fortimel of the day so may have a little affect still!

Oh well, at least its something :)

Thanks for your replies all xx

Fingers crossed for tomorrow Julie ! Take care x

As your diet becomes more solid so should your poo. I have found thought that carbs make my toileting rather loose and smelly.

I can recommend the citrus fresh as really works. I got some for my dad when he had cancer and this is the only thing that had an effect on the really evil smell.
