POST OP DIET raw or cooked measurements?

New Member
Hi all

Does anyone know if the measurements in the aftercare information are cooked or uncooked. For example Porridge 1-3 tbsp? I'm taking this as made up porridge.

Many thanks x

will depend what method of surgery, but that amount would be made up :)

Thanks all.

I'm banded. I did think it would be cooked. It's so hard making up the correct amount from dry. I guess it's guess work for a while.

It is made up

I only had very small after my op but take it slow
After a few days you'll be better and can eat a little more
If its a band your tummy gets swollen after the op and takes a couple of days for it to go down but then you'll eat more also they put a couple of nsl in to start and after about 6 weeks you have your fill
It's a great adventure enjoy the journey all who have been through it are here to help during the bad times but the good times get more and more

just throw the rest away, you'll get used to it! :)

Its different for all of us banders, but my meal sizes now are between 200 and 400g in weight dependent on time of the day (maximum is a small ready meal size) ...I know that that is the right volume of food to not push my band at the level of restriction I have. So even if I am eating out or not tracking calories and the meal on my plate is larger than that, I visualise the amount i should eat and know to stop eating even if I am not getting the 'full signals' at that time. That approach worked for me while I was losing my 150lb plus and still does in maintenance.

Not all providers put any saline into the band in at the time of surgery and there are many who do not do so for the first time until 5-6 weeks after the band has been fitted.

You will in time Chummy get used to what you need to make up for the food you're going to eat. Although if you only use a couple of spoons of porridge to make up any wastage will be minimal.

:)

When I asked about putting saline in at surgery he said only put 1-2 nsl in depends on band size it helps it stay in place
But after 5 weeks never had much restriction as the swelling had gone down lots and I had a fill noticed it straight away
I still miss my band it became my best friend but I love the bypass to if you can understand its totally different
But after every fill I had different reactions to food strange but good

There are many providers that do not put any in, as they feel that it is important that the band settle in place before being placed under any pressure. My own provider doesn't place any in at time of surgery and the first fill is after a minimum of 5 weeks :) but I know mine aren't the only one.

But am glad that you are happy with your bypass :)

once you have healed properly and back to normal be carefull with porridge because it slides but in healing stages id say make it up and then measure tbh I never weighed anything

I was talking to a guy at the clinic other week who had a bypass and a band tired at the same time not heard of that strange
