Did anyone start on mash food early after bypass. I just feel so tired I cannot do anything and think a bit of mash potato etc might help??

I had a sleeve not a bypass but I had to do 4 weeks on the liquid stage and then 4 weeks on puréed and it is tough but I felt it best to stick to the Surgeon/Dieticians advice. If you really feel you should try something thicker I would avoid mash as it is pure carbohydrate and will make you feel even more tired.
Try to look at your food in the order of Protein first then veg (not potatoes) then carbs. the increase in protein combined with the reduction in carbs will make you feel less tired.
Are you drinking any protein shakes or double milk?

You don't say when you had the op, but the initial tiredness is due to the anaesthesia. Sleep it off and you will start to feel better.

Can't stand the taste of milk so no. Told by dietician I didn't need to drink protein drinks???

My day consited of:-
0800 cup of tea
0900 BREAKFAST half cup of innocent smoothie (eaten with a tea spoon to slow you down)
1000 squash or tea or coffee
1100 MID MORNING half cup semi-skimmed milk with 2 table spoons of Marvel in it again eat with teaspoon personally I think this is vile but it's not there for fun so going to have to put up with it
1200 squash or tea or coffee
1PM LUNCH half cup Complan banana or Strawberry shake (yum yum quite like these) again eat with teaspoon
2pm - 330pm squash or tea or coffee
4pm MID AFTERNOON half cup semi-skimmed milk with 2 table spoons of Marvel in it again eat with teaspoon
5pm squash or tea or coffee
6pm DINNER Half cup of no lumps or bits soup eat with teaspoon
7pm squash or tea or coffee
8pm SNACK half cup of s/f jelly or half cup of smoothie eat with teaspoon

That worked for me but I have no issues with milk so suppose the only sage advice really is to stick with your dieticians advice, if you're still feeling tired then you should go back to the dietician and let them know.

At one week it could still be the anaesthesia. I turned the corner on the sunday after my op and by all accounts I am recovering pretty fast. Right now, the more sleep you get, the quicker the effects will wear off. Also make sure you eat as often as your info tells you to as that will help too.

Sunderland hospital puts you straight onto pureed food so I was having mashed potato and gravy 2 days later, but I would reccommend sticking with what you've been advised case something wasnt to agree with you, it wont be long x

Hi

The hospital I had my bypass done at don't do the usual liquid diet after surgery, I had to do puréed food for 4 weeks and then mashed for another 4. On the day after my surgery I had potato and cheese, puréed but it tasted fantastic, if your on a purée stage well mashed potato is fine.

If your team are telling you to have liquids, then it's best to stick to what they say, they have there reasons. Every stage has its hurdles to jump so it's not worth rushing in the long run, if you do and it all goes wrong who are you going to blame.
