Pre-op diets

Reading through the various posts on here, its interesting to see that different areas in the country all have different pre-op diets. Some recommend the all-milk one, others a low calorie one. Who makes the decision on which diet ? Surely it should be the same everywhere?

When i went for my consultation with my surgeon he told me to do the Milk and yoghurt one for 10 days could have been 7 but as i'm bigger he wanted me to do 10 days.

Its the preference of them really, but if you don't like milk and yoghurt much or don't think its for you tell them and i'm sure they will give you an alternate to do instead,

I think it depends if you go private or NHS also it seems.

I was not given any options just given all the food I need for 5 days which is pretty much like slim fast shakes and soups.

Mainly it is down to the consultant to say what he thinks is best for you. Dr Ashton covers Manchester, Birmingham and London with different surgeons and they all use the same pre op.

I think if you don't like what you are being told to use then ask if there is an alternative.

not sure as i have been told i will need to do clear soups, bovril and jelly for two weeks pre-op but have heard loads of variations to this so not quite sure whatever im not looking forward to it!!

I had the choice either Milk or food I went with the food cheated a bit but still lost some lol

You've got to remember that the pre op diet is not to lose weight but to shrink your liver.

It is important to the success of the actually surgery and your health.

As long as you are on a very low calorie diet for at least 5 days you should be fine.

i was also given the choice of milk or low cal diet i choosethe milk diet as im better if i have no choice as i cant cheat then.
