Protein

Hi all

I am 6 weeks post sleeve op, and I know how important it is to eat our protein foods first, but unsure of how much protein we should be aiming for each day.....
I manage around 40gms daily, sometimes more, sometimes less. Is this enough?
Thanks for your help.

I was told initially 60 to 80 g protein per day. I really struggled & got very stressed & upset about not achieving it. My dietician said that I need not worry to much or the first 6 months & try for 40g. I still find it quite hard. I had my op at the end of February. My Dietiian has 'allowed' me to have high protein shakes & soups to help. She doesn't normally allow these preferring her patients to get protein from food sources. I have studied protein levels so much over last 6 months so if you need any tips let me know LOL.

Thanks Belly dancer.

I tend to go for scrambled eggs, corned beef, chicken and fish. I occasionally have other meats but not too often.
Any tips for other sources, not too high calorie but easy(ish) to eat.
Thanks again

M & S extra lean corned beef is 11g protein for 1 slice & much easier to get down. 2 slices gives 22g protein in 1 hit. Fage 0% fat Greek yogurt is a life saver. Great for making up fat free sauces see their website for great recipes, substitute for cream but add at end of recipe or will split. Laughing cow lite cheese triangles are good for mid morning / afternoon snacks or mashed into jacket potato (avoid the skin at early stages). At early stages I got minced chicken from Tesco fresh meat counter & made it into chicken & veg soup & blitzed it o kinda hidden chicken protein & managed that. Prawns & crab were good for me too. Adding milk powder to soups etc is good to boost protein. I drink Emni Cafe lattes from Sainsbury or tesco low fat, low sugar, low cal & have 5.8 g protein per drink or just make up your coffee with milk. All these little steps contribute to your intake of protein. Hope some of his helps. Carol Bowen Balls Return to Slender books re great for recipes. He has a great blog online & free recipes on there. As you can see I still love cooking but now watch what I eat & only small amounts. Gotta tart within my partner as he is eating much more now I only have pixie portions. He will have to get down that gym even more LOL.
