Purée stage

I started purée stage yesterday and was wondering what people thought of purée meat. Personally I can't bear the look of it. I miss eating meat and wondered what people eat instead of this protein.

hi Jay, I've been on puree food since a couple of days after surgery (different hospitals different diets!) and I have to admit with struggling with anything that in unnatural pureed. I tend to stick to porridge, cheesy mash, runny mince, fish in sauce, smoothies, yogs, Melba toast and marmite, soups. basically anything pureed that is meant to be, otherwise I have severe gagging!

ive been forcing myself to have it with gravy but don't like it at all, i usually eat a lot of meat so do miss it, had a nice piece of smoked haddock last night cooked in milk in microwave with a couple of spoons of mash :)

doesnt melba toast get stuck at all, i really coud do with something crunchy and fresh tasting like marmite.:)

I've been ok with it Angie, as long as you chew chew chew before swallowing. the marmite helps stimulate my mouth juices so all good fir me :) x

Thanks for all your replies. Will defo be trying some of your ideas.

Lynne08 do you purée your fish before eating or do you just chew really well?

... well last night I cooked a small salmon steak and had with a tbsp mash and a squirt of v low fat salad cream (didn't have any tartre sauce!) I mixed the salmon fakes with both potato and salad cream and just made sure I chewed really well till it was mush in my mouth before I swallowed. sounds disgusting, but I felt that I was eating proper food. the fish was very soft mind.

Hi Hun i have been making mini shepherds pies and pureeing them with gravy... also ive been having frozen white fish brought from tesco... ive been pureeing that with mash, veggies and fish stock.
Lunch ive been having scrambled egg... then on the side a bit of pureed mash and veg.

hope this helps a bit x
