Question about dumping ??

I had a mini gastric bypass 19 days ago. Today out of the blue I had terrible low stomach pains, then dizziness, then sweating, then retching (but not actually sick), then to top it off diarrhoea !! I felt awful. My question is: is this dumping ? Is it caused by something eaten in the last hour or so or can it be caused by something eaten the night before for example ?

Sorry so many questions but this happened so suddenly and caught me off guard !

Any advise great fully received ?

Hi Pinklady, when i dump it happens about 10mins after i have eaten something i should not have done, i m also sick and have to lie down for about an hour, but we are all diffrent.
Good luck with your mini bypass i have never heard of a that before.

Thanks Wendy1 - what threw me having this today was that I only had a milky coffee (with sweetener) about 20 mins before it happened and no food at all ! Had been tolerating milk just fine till now, will be scared to try it again !! Dumping really is horrid isn't it ?

Not many surgeons do the mini gastric bypass apparently but it seemed like the right choice for me after much researching x

Yep sounds like it as far as I can see my own brand is the pain, the sweating and diarrhoea, I'm just 12 days out and have dumped three times, I think it's literally just trial and error unfortunately.

Sometimes it can be due to an already elevated blood sugar or so I've heard. I've had that twice. Also I've had the 10 minutes later when I've been an idiot

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this......

I had a tin of Baxters carrot and coriander soup for my tea, really enjoyed it until 20 mins later when I diarrhoea (sorry tmi). Is this normal? Soup giving you the runs? checked the tin and it said 6% fat could that be the cause of it? Anyone had a similar experience? Thanks.

I have dumped twice on semi skimmed milk !!! and I had diarrhoea after eating a Chinese clear soup but I dunked 3 prawn crackers in it till soft and am sure that happened because they are deep fried and therefore high in fat (although of course I did not think of this until after I had eaten them !!) ?

No, not beforehand, another rookie mistake.

Here's the nutritional info, is there any red flags?

Did you have just the one serving? If your sensitive you may need to keep sugars under 5g/100 or per serving.

No, I had the whole tin! Yesterday I was determined to eat more, so I'd have more energy and get back to work. I'm so bored at home and I think I'd benefit from having a routine. Unfortunately it backfired on me (no pun intended). ;)

Thanks for your advise. Will start reading nutritional values on tins. X

Dumping for a bypasser is the symptoms (shakes, sweats, dizziness, comatose like sleep) that occur when too much undigested sugar hits the bowel too quickly. Incidentally the fact that its liquid would not have helped.

haha what the hell is dumping??!!!?!?!? this made me smile... im such a child

Dumping or dumping syndrome happens when you eat something high in fat or sugar. After gastric bypass your new pouch and large intestine cannot tolerate high fat/sugar foods.

When I dump on high fat I get a really bad tummy and chronic diaohrrea. When I dump on sugar (which I think is far worse) I have cold sweats, fast heartbeat, I feel sick and then it knocks me out and I have too sleep for several hours.

Dumping is an excellent deterrent for stopping you eating the wrong foods. If you experience it once, I can guarantee you'll never want to experience it again!!
