question about hunger

pandora

finding my way again !
It just went through my head , when I did Cambridge & now doing milk diet I still felt /feel hungry despite being in keytosis . Now I know the hunger mechanism is different post op , but wonder if I will be one of those who still gets hungry ????

Well i still feel hungry but think that will change when we eat solid food again ??

I'm post op and find the hunger tends to be more in my head ie a whiff of chips etc lol it passes having said that I do feel a very mild hunger as it comes up to my meal times xx nothing like I was pre op

Head hunger is very real, its sarting to get better for me, whether thats through my will power i dont know. I find im telling myself "no your not hungry, wait a while" as long as i create a deficit of calories i know im going to lose weight. I also realise that if i dont exercise my calorie intake will have to be so low to carry on losing weight. My appetite is nothing like it was before surgery, i find as long as i eat plenty of protein througout the day and low carbs i stay fuller for longer.
Good luck with your op in march

It's early days for me - but I haven't felt any hunger yet. I sometimes feel a little empty but never hungry.

In fact I struggle to eat really. The problem is - at this puree stage - most of the foods I can have are quit sweet and they make me feel sick.

Weeble I didn't have any overly sweet foods during puree stage bar a fromage fraud, I blended soups, mash potato, mushy peas, beans, slow cooked beef stew, cauliflower cheese try some other options than custard and yoghurt it doesn't look tasty but it us lol x

To be honest the only actually sweet things I am eating are yogurts and milk ice lollies. However, food all seems to be slightly sweet to me. Parsnip soup, carrot and coriander, blended quorn shepherds pie.

Maybe it's just my tastebuds.

This isn't head hunger I have at the mo , I sat & watched kids eat KFC last night , didn't bother me at all , this is real tummy rumbling hunger . I know post op I will be able to eat , just hope I am not one of the few who does get popper hunger .
Thanks for the replies xx

I have often doubted this "alleged" claim that being in ketosis leads to ZERO hunger -- when we have football sized stomachs which were previously used to being satiated regularly! :p

I am hoping it will improve (for all of us!) once stomach is reduced to a tiny pouch / sleve !!!

I mainly had head hunger for the first 2 years after my operation. Now I feel real hunger again but nowhere near as bad as previously.

It could be partly because you can only take liquids at the moment (and liquids transit thru quite fast) but there is another possibility.

This is a video Dr Alvarez loaded a few weeks ago trying to answer (why) "Hungry after surgery"

VSG Q&A's: Hungry after surgery - YouTube

Altho it mainly relates to a sleeve, I expect the post-operative swelling he refers to applies to both operations.
