Question about the Band Port

I just wanted to know when you go to have fills does it hurt ?
Do you stand up lie down, is it under aneasthetic ? do you bleed or is it just like having an injection. I am such a softie and hate the idea rather than the actual thing.

i have my fills lying down under xray, they dont give anestetic as its just a sharp scratch with a pressure feeling, some times it doesnt hurt other times theres just a slight discomfort but it is bearable. You will be ok.

Hi I have a band fitted and have my fills under xray they lay me on a bed locate the port under xray remove whatever liquid is in the band then stand me up on the bed and add the liquid between taking drinks of barium drink until the restriction is adequate, then lay me down remove the needle and away. The whole process takes around 10 minutes and is virtually painless although I know some hospitals dont do it with xray but this is how mine is done. It really is nothing to worry about hope this helps. xx

Barium tastes of nothing....it's the consistency of a Macdonalds thickshake and has no taste.

Its cold though...

My surgeon does the first fill under x ray, then after that in his office. As he is the one that does the fills, he remembers where your port is. Well I hope he does.

It didn't hurt at all the first time, it was painless and over and done with very quickly.

Ive had two band fills now and neither were done under x ray so didnt have to have the barium drink. I to am a big softie and didnt feel a thing, but i do have a good bariatric nurse.

iv never had an xray at all my fills are done by laying on table he feels my tummy finds port pops needle in i then have to sit up have a drink and he takes needle out after that doesnt hurt at all iv also never had a barium thankgod!!

Hi

I had my first band fill last Saturday. It was fine - no x-ray. Just had to lie down and he put the fine needle in my port. I just had to drink some water and then some yoghurt just to make sure I could swallow ok. It was absolutely fine, I promise!
