Question for Post Op Bypasser?

BIG KIM

I am a *NEW* Man!
At what stage after surgery can you start to eat things like

Crunchy Salad, cucumber, tomatoes, fruit etc etc

on my diet sheet, all those stuff come after week 7. solid foods (back to normal)

however, from week 3, i can have puree fruit. so, i'm guessing you can puree your fruit, tomatoes (perhaps as soup?).

Hi,

I started introducing them slowly after about 4 weeks.

I have never had a problem with foods such as salads or fruit. But some people find they struggle with the rinds of certain foods so be carefull and add new foods into your diet slowly.

Steph x

I will never consider sugary or fatty foods as part of my eating habits ever again, even in 2 years time.
I have even gone off coffee, and I used to have lots, mainly at work, but not any more.

Hi Rim

You will find that salad stuff muches up to a mush when you chew it, so you may find your able to tolerate it quite early on, i did and cant seem to free eat salad without gaining any sort of restriction at all (which is greta if i eat out and have a salad as its as though i've had nothing done) - my advice would be to give it a try and see, remember to chew it down to a pulp well and and try it a little at a time

I would agree with SS on this. I was quite wary of lettuce because of stories of blocking the stoma, but the crispy types of lettuce like Romain or Iceberg munch down quite well. I still haven't had tomatos because of the skins but I expect I will give them a go soon. Cucumber and radishes are fine and a welcome change.

when i say sugar .. i mean anything with a little sugar.. even cereal.. plums are a nono and hot choc - i cant have any! its a blessing i spose but im a woman and u know how we all love choc! ha x

interesting that you mention hot choc actually, i am a couple of days post-op and am allowed some hot choc. i had a really really small mug (a tad smaller than an espresso mug) and i had the runs the whole day. i think i might be ultra-sensitive to sweet things too.

I've been having Options hot choc for the past week with no problems. I actually used to add sugar to it pre op and now I don't need it it's sweet enough for me.

Solids for me started at week 7+ and i was advised to try one new thing a day. don't overload your system with new things this way you can see what works for you. and remember just because you cannot tollerate it one day doesnt mean you wont be able to have it a few days later. Try something a few times before you give up on it.

Hiya pumpkin

Your only a few days out and still on liquids, so i wouldn't worry to much about having the runs at your stage, as all you have inside is liquids, you may be sensative to sugar though the runs tends to be associated with to much fat in your diet not sugar. I'd wait and see in the coming weeks when your back on more solid food as things will change and settle into a crazy kind of normality.
My first week post op i had an entire can of thai red curry soup blended down, you could actually see the oil floating on the top of the soup, had the entire bowl feeling pleased withmyself, then spent the next 12 hours on the loo in agony - learn't a big lesson that day :8855:

I started to try stir-frys and salads about 9 weeks post op and they have been fine. With time, and bad experiences, I am learning to really chew my food and take smaller mouthfuls. Throwing up tends to focus the mind somewhat!
I only have Options hot chocolate as the other stuff would make me dump.

i defo am because the options ones give me the runs 2 .. although its the next day .. the day i drink it (ive tryed it twice) i dumped really bad! :( try again in a few weeks u might be ok... xx
