Question for post op ladies

My menstrual cycle has become really erratic since my op, and my periods are so heavy.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Definitely, I am sick to the back teeth tbh. My PMS is terrible, the period pains are shocking. I really never linked it to the op though but they do say that things change as we lose weight so maybe thats it.

Most of the female hormones are fat soluble and as the fat is broken down more are released. Plus there is s theory that our body produces more the heavier we are as obviously there is more of us, and it takes a while for this to alter as we shrink. Mine have gone from being every 28 days like clockwork to anything between 24-36 days!

Guess i should consider myself lucky then as since the op mine has gone from not being very regular to being bang on due date every month!!!! xxx

Its very common, all the hormones released by the fat metabolism generally make you very fertile and mess with your cycles. I havent had periods for a few years due to my weight and PCOS, mine are starting to try and return with all the hormones flying about, hopefully they come back properly so I can test out that fertile thing!

Can't help i'm afraid, I havent had a period for years, mine finnished in my mid 40's when I went mad on the ATKINS diet. THANK YOU DR ATKINS.

i dont have them and havent for 10 years as i dont ovulate and have pcos - doctor tells me they might come back after the op - oh joy thats something to look forward to

Because of another health condition, I have my periods stopped by using a contraception injection. But since the surgery 11 weeks ago, I have several periods. So not sure whats going on there! I'm sure it will settle down.

Appart from a short break because i had the pill injection my period has been pretty much none stop since my op........btw i hate the depot injection more than i hate periods lol

you wouldn't advice it then nadine???
have a coil fitted now???

Defo for coil, obviously oral contraception doesn't work post op, the injection as far as i'm concerned is awful. I cant be sure but i'm sure it kicked of my gall bladder problems.......it defo took my libido but the worst thing was the anxiety it made me feel i hate it !!!! xx

I have to say following surgery they were every month, until October last year when i haven't had one since then. My gp says they won't exaggerate till it's been 4 months, i personally think just turning 43 might have something to do with it :)

sorry Nadine i wrote my question wrong lol...it sounded bossy...it should have read..."have you had the coil fitted now???"
i know you was looking into it a few months ago.

i have read the coil can help make your periods lighter....
have you thought about the implant ??

ive had a hysterctomy, but kept my ovaries, ive been on the change for last couple of years, you know how you get those little signs when ur gonna come on, well i got them regularly till a couple of yrs ago, then they went very sketchy, i could go months with no signs at all, since ive had my bypass, i get them more often now, still not regular, but just more often, so it must definately affect something mustnt it.
