Hi

I have my consultation tomorrow with Ameet Patel and wanted to go armed with lots of questions.

Any ideas?

I'm thinking of going with him too! Important things i think id like to ask are;
How many sleeves (or whatevr procedure ur going for) have u done?
Have you had any leaks?
Rates of other post op complications
Any deaths related to the op?

(sorry these are all so morbid but theyr the things that worry me)

P.s let us know how u get on!!

Are you going for the single incision or the usual multiples?

might be a few topics involved with that.

Does he require a liver shrinking diet? The answer from my experience is no, but might still be worth an ask at least it shows you've done your home work!

Does he repair any hernia's, assuming you have one, while he's there.

Will you have a feeding tube after?

Did u have a feeding tube wonderlust?

He told me that he likes to do that as a precaution, but in the end he was confident that there were no leaks so he didn't use one.

Thats good u didnt need one. Ugh I would really not like one! Tho if it has to be done then it has to be done. Better safe than sorry eh?

Thanks. Some great questions there.

I am opting for multiple incision.

Feeding tube scares me a bit! Hey ho.

Wonder of he would repair a hernia, I get a lot of reflux so always wondered if I had one! They are supposedly easy to repair so I'm told so hopefully he would.

Cannot wait to meet him!!

Will post the outcome here.

not sure about the rules about posting links...

But I just found an interesting PDF of a powerpoint presentation that may answer a few of your questions...

Go to kings web site and search ameet patel then follow the first link.....

I asked my surgeon:

-- what size bougie do you use?

-- do you oversew the staple line?

His answers were: 36F and no -- Mr Sufi's view is that oversewing can actually add more risk, by interfering in the newly stapled up stomach, adding tiny needle holes etc, so his view was that as long as the staple line appeared to be strong and secure and leak free after the dye test (done during the op whilst anaesthetised) he would prefer not to oversew.

Hello Sarah,
I have the same questions for Mr Patel on Thursday 24th May.
I hope I could have soon single incision gastric sleeve surgery and I would love sharing with you all my experience.

there are lots of things i need to know, i suffer from really bad acid reflux will this improve or get worse thats one of the first ones

Hi Betty

I too have reflux and Mr Patel explained that a sleeve can make it worse as your new stomach is long and thing, which makes reflux more likely, especially if you have suffered before.
He has one patient who is suffering terribly with it, but to be fair to him he is doing everything he can to help her.

That's why he recommended a bypass to me when I was originally wanting the sleeve.
