I am 8 years post of Bypass, and all this time have kept my weight with in a 5 pound range until now that is. I am up 15 pounds and I need help. I have been worried I have stretched my pouch and will continue to gain back weight. If anyone has been at the same point, I would love to chat and see what might help. Thank you all !!

Morning Mrs D - and Welcome to wls. Congratulations for keeping your weight down for so long; must be very difficult to find your putting it back on again slowly.

I`m no expert, but I guess sometimes when things are slowing down or going in the reverse direction, then perhaps we have to go back to basics for a while to undo the gains.
Have you had a look at what you`re eating to identify if there is anything that has crept in that has caused weight to increase.
Your weight has stayed within a certain amount for a long time, and I know as we get towards middle-age then the weight is more difficult to lose.(forgive me if I have this wrong as regards your age; you could be a young bunny!)

Have you thought of joining a slimming club to assist you get rid of those extra lbs. I know it would be so dissapointing to you to add any more to that total.

Someone may be along a bit later - when they all wake up, to give you some more pointers and tips.

Take care hun x

Love and Best Wishes Kat x

Thank you for the advice, I have been keeping a food diary to try to locate the problem. I also was reading on this site the Rules for the Pouch and I have never seen or heard them before, but I will for sure be trying to follow the rules now !!:wave_cry:

Good Luck for finding the pouch rules and following them, with any luck the weight will soon start dropping off again.

Oscar - my westie is was 12 last June; and he means the world to me, fortunately the vet thinks he is a healthy little fellow, and he should have many good years left.

Good Luck hun x

Hi and welcome to the site its great to see someone so far out joining. 15lbs is worrying but not too bad in the scheme of things and potential regain. The rules for the pouch are excellent that someone posted and should be useful. I hope you can addresss your small gain as its something that I am sure is worrying for you as I worry about regain a lot and am only 20 months out as yet.

Good luck

Hi Mrs D - welcome to the forum.

Have you tried the (5 day) pouch test?

Basically you do the diet you did for the first 5 weeks (or longer) after your op in 5 days (or longer).

So you would do fluids for 2 days, moving onto puree/mash, then onto soft foods etc. It's supposed to help tighten up the pouch and it is recommended that it is done every few years or when you no longer get good restriction.

Also increasing your protein will help.

Nice to hear from someone so far out of their op.....I'm sure lots of questions will be asked!

Only 6 months out so cant comment but wanted to say congratulations on maintaining for so long.

Hope you get it sorted and I think doing a diary is really good.

Well done xxx

I'm also thinking along the terms of the 5 day pouch test just to get your restriction to kick back in and back to basics :) Good luck x

Thank you for your response, and you should not worry, just listen to your body. I think I have forgotten to do that.

Thank you, I have done the 5 day pouch test and dropped 6 pounds, yea !! But the results are not lasting, gained back 1.5 after another 5 days. What is it with the stones that people are talking about?

Lol, the stones are how we calculate weight whereas you talk in pounds or kilos. 14 pounds = 1 stone. So where you would say 140 pounds we would say 10 stone....just a cultural difference :D XX

Maybe you need to extend your pouch test and do more than 5 days - until you can feel your restriction returning.
