Hello all. I am nearly 5 weeks post op, And whenever i have eaten a little bit too much or something has gotten stuck, I start burping uncontrollably. Then it is followed by bubbly saliva. I burp and bring up this bubbly saliva for about 30 minutes until the pain in my chest has gone.

Please tell me i am not the only one this has happened to lol.

Whenever i have gotten a little pain i have stopped eating, have you eaten too fast or too much?? I t might just be the way your body copes, hopefully someone will come on with the same symptoms. xx

Hi

Do you feel hungry? Not sure my head will work at the same time as my stomach when I get to post op?? I eat now when I am not hungry :(

This is trapped wind in the pouch, caused by swallowing too much in one mouthful, not chewing properly, or eating too quickly.

It causes a pain in sternum, burps and bringing up froth.

Avoid it by taking bites no bigger than a pencil top rubber, chew to liquid, and pause between bites.

It's really really common in the first few months post RNY. Some people mistake it for trapped or stuck food, or not being able to eat a certain type of food.

If it happens, stop eating, and if possible get someone to rub your back as if they were burping a baby.

Thank you. I thought i had been doing well in that department, But my body obviously thinks differently.

I do not know what i would do without this forum <3

Shel, I am quite worried about having too much in a mouthful, particularly with the liquids as I'm now able to have normal sized sips. I eat with a teaspoon and put it down in between mouthfuls. Does that sound right to you?

Yup, sounds about right. You can get pouch wind with liquids but it's harder, so as long as you take it slow you'll be fine.

For the first 2-3 months my motto was that if the food was still hot when I'd finished, then I'd eaten it too fast!
