restriction???

Hi, we all talk about restriction on here, but what does it really mean to you?? Does it mean that after eating a small amount of food, you feel satisfied, or perhaps after a small amount you are simply unable to eat any more because it is not slipping through the band very easily??

I'm 8 weeks post op and havnt had a fill yet. I'm still losing weight so im guessing i must have restriction. So for me the best way i can describe it now is feeling satisfied after a few bites when before you started eating you were hungry, and the feeling of fullness lasting hours. I guess for me thats how i would describe restriction right now. This is the sort of restriction im happy with i never want to be over restricted. I have 3 small meals and 2 snacks occasionally i never have more than this.

I guess as i begin having fills the meaning of restriction may change, i dont know x

Restriction for me is watching my daughters (long term Banders) struggle to eat even a small meal without some form of discomfort..if they overeat they are sick...if they have something they maybe don't have normally it may get stuck :/

For me
I feel uncomfortable and cannot swallow any more food without it getting stuck...however I have only had 2 fills so I am not at correct level of restriction as yet

I feel I do have some form of restriction as I do not feel as hungry between meals as I used too

I would love to know what restriction means to everyone...great thread :)

I've has three fills, went for a forth last week but due to weight loss I didn't have it... I'm not perfectly in the green zone yet but certainly very very close and worried to go tighter then I need to. I'm informed that all the problems start when people get to tight.

So for me restriction is simply satisfaction, satisfaction early on in a meal, on a very small portion.. If I wanted to keep eating I most certainly can without sickness or sticking. I eat very slowly and chew chew chew if I do that I am full on very little. If I don't chew I stick easily and at times this can be sore, equally so if I eat too fast.
I have hunger but never starving like before and I can go long periods without food if I'm busy!
I still crave salt and sugar and try to moderate these foods. I am concerned to go any tighter as being stuck is HORRIBLE! I don't eat beef or lamp for fear! And avoid chicken unless I have cooled it, I've given up on yellow fish after two stuck episodes! But everything goes down fine. I limited bread to the odd piece of toast, and try to fill on salad and veg!
Although my weight loss is very very slow (lost 22lb in 4 months but also been on a 2 week cruise and put 6lb on) I am happy, I am around 10.2/10.4 fluctuating, but really really comfortable in my own skin and still enjoying my food! Long may it last...

For me I'm hoping restriction will simply mean that a smaller portion of food will keep hunger at bay longer. I don't particularly want discomfort when I eat, although I'm willing to trade having to avoid some foods because they stick in order to achieve satiety.
After my last fill last week I'm struggling to eat - it's like having to re-learn how to eat with the band all over again. I'd be horrified if I thought this is how things would be long term!

in a nut shell sarah that is exactly where i dont want to be! i dont think ill ever have many fills if i can avoid it x

I had my 3rd fill last Tuesday and I'm where Val's daugters are at the moment. I'm not sure if I need to settle down, but it's not somewhere I want to be for long. 4 mouthfuls of food and discomfort, 5 or 6 pain and sliming. I'm still learning about what I can eat and at what speed, so I'm treating it as a learning experience.

However, I have my next appt on 17th January for a defill if this keeps up. If this stops me making silly mistakes over Christmas, then I'm prepared to live with it for the short term. I have c.2 stone to lose, so expect to crack on until 17th and then slow down a bit again.

As far as I am aware
Restriction = smaller portions make you feel fuller longer
But I think the downside is you may get stuckage or feeling a little sick :/

Well, I think I experienced restriction after my second fill, but I was struggling to eat much. I felt full after eating hardly anything, and I didn't feel hungry for ages. However, I'm not sure I'd want that permanently as the downside was feeling pain or discomfort every time I ate anything.

It's now settled down, and isn't too bad. I can manage larger portions now, but I think I need a tiny bit more in the band to keep things in check.

Hopefully the 'green zone' isn't too far off, as weight loss is slow at the moment. Saying that, I don't think of myself as on a diet, so I don't feel I'm denying myself anything - but I'm on a permanent eating change.

Funnily enough, the thing I struggle with most is potato. Mash is fine but anything else just won't go down.

It took me a long time to figure out how my band worked for me. Honestly, I took a long time to eat because what I didn't realize was that I was letting food go thru and then eat more. So unfortunately for me, I haven't lost near what I should have!

Now that I have a grip, I don't feel the standard description of feeling full. To me it's when I feel a little tightness ... but not to where I am uncomfortable.

I have realized that the amount of food I can eat varies by the type of food I try. Plus what I can eat today may not be what I can eat 3 days from now.

This is so true ..some days I can eat thin sliced chicken as a protein snack other days I die an agony once I have tried to swallow it :/

Oh how I know that agony feeling! This week it's eggs ... can't get them to stay down for anything! I also work a lot of night shifts and after about 10 pm there is very little eating cuz food just sits in my pouch. So I relay on a lot of liquids.

Oh! And leftovers ... no luck with those! I am not one of those people that can eat out and then have leftovers for 2 days cuz they won't go thru.
