So i'm looking into have a band. I dont eat much meat and generally eat more salad than veg. How does this work with a band?

A bit worried because most people on here talk about veg & i haven't seen anyone mention salad.

Because I don't eat much meat I think my diet mainly consists of cheese, mushrooms, potatoes, pasta & rice. Forgot bread. Not very healthy and I take a folic acid tablet every day & have a shot of B12 by injection every 12 weeks.

Hi

I think most people would include salad as veg when talking about their diet.

Banders would usually be advised to avoid pasta, rice and bread post op as they are hard to tolerate. I had my band fitted in April and I do not eat meat at all.

My diet now consists of fish, quorn or tofu plus veg (or salad) plus a small amount of carbs - cous cous, potato etc.

How come you need a b12 injection, if you dont mind me asking?

I had a full blood test at my doctors and they found that my B12 level was very low. Lots of hospital tests icluding scans & barium meal.Possibly because I am 41 and have never liked red meat or milk. I also had a low folic level but can take that in tablet form. The injection is not too bad although I thought they would inject directly into a vein instead of muscle.

Forgot to say that after an injection I feel great. (apparently this is the injection they give to oaps to get them back on their feet after an op.

Oh dear, some bypassers have them too, Im 40 and havent eaten meat since i was 17 and never had any probs. Just goes to show we are all different!

Salad is fine but you have to chew it up really thoroughly. Carrots need to be grated really as otherwise bit can get stuck. Cous cous is good and challenges the band. x
